Description

Produced for the Irwell Valley Mining Project, this film is introduced by Paul Kelly, a former miner at Agecroft Colliery in Salford and features the Durham Gala, otherwise known as the Big Meet, on a sunny July day in 2013. We see the brass bands and miners with their colliery banners marching through the streets of Durham before stopping for the banner blessing at Durham Cathedral. After brief interviews with an ex-miner and the Dean of Durham Cathedral, the film ends with a joyous rendition of 'Walking on Sunshine' by the Harrogate brass band.
