Description |
The making of clog irons by blacksmiths at Thomas Green's shop in Silsden. A mix of traditional and more modern tools and techniques are employed to make both the 'heel' and 'front' irons. The film includes the use of the foot-powered Oliver Hammer, hand-bellows for the hearth, the hardy, the anvil and a swage block to shape 'front' irons. The blacksmiths also use mechanical tools such as a punching machine to make nail holes in the 'heel' irons and a power hammer to reduce their physical work. They work as a team to increase productivity as the narrator notes the demise of the hand craft of clog iron making. The film ends with a pair of irons on display. |
