Description

Ernest Sims makes a wooden hay rake using traditional methods and tools in his workshop outside a thatched cottage in Tadley, Hampshire. This dying craft has been carried out by his family for the past 200 years, and Mr Sims is shown making all aspects of the rake, from the "tines" (teeth) to the split "stale" (handle). There are brief shots of a man using a Lancashire-style hay rake in a field at the beginning and end of the film.
