In 1937 during a trip to Rhyl, the family have a picnic by their parked car. In 1938 during the annual hot pot supper, a group of people sit down and enjoy plenty of food and drink. In 1939, the group have a picnic in Cilcain. Children can be seen playing outside and inside the cars. A group of women can be seen skipping. The film cuts to behind the scenes of the making an Air Raid Precaution film. A warden can be seen demonstrating how to use a gas mask. In summer 1938 they head to Crosby where they visit a park and boating lake. On the beach, a stall sells Coca-Cola drinks and crowds sit out in the sun. At the playground, the children play on the merry-go-round and the slide. For their summer holidays in 1941, the family visit Deganwy in North Wales. A young boy is seen knocking at the front door of a house. Later the boy spends time in the garden with other family members. They later visit the beach where the young boy builds sandcastles. They also visit The Smallest House In Great Britain. The film ends with brief shots of Conwy Castle. | |||

Compilation reel featuring John Bailey Hughes, family and friends. Begins with dupe of 9.5 mm material of John as a baby, a nurse can be seen holding him. The nurses wave good-bye as the Hughes take their baby home. A bit older, John can be seen playing with his toys and sitting up in his pram, smiling for the camera. The family and some friends visit the beach. John plays in his playpen in the garden, his mother holds him while he waves a Union Jack flag. In Summer 1937, the family go on holidays to Gwespyr in Wales. In the next scene, John's mother helps him try to take his first steps. We see the family visit Chester Zoo when John is a bit older. At the zoo, they see a variety of animals such as bears and monkeys. Christmas 1937, John sits in his high chair and plays with his toys. In 1938, family and friends meet for a picnic in Little Leigh. At the age of two, John can be seen helping out with the gardening. Christmas 1938, John enters the living room to see what presents Santa has left for him including a new tricycle. Later, we see John as a page boy at a wedding. For his fourth birthday, John wears a Native American costume and plays in a field. On his fifth birthday, John plays with his new train set. At Ainsdale beach, John can be seen playing in the sand and rolling down the sand dunes. The film cuts to Christmas scenes, family and friends sit around the table enjoying Christmas dinner and drinks. On John's sixth birthday he plays with the family kitten. Christmas 1942, shots of the family eating and John's presents which include model aeroplanes. January 1st 1943 - the children examine a wall that has been knocked down. We see the wall being reconstructed by two builders. John and other schoolboys can be seen leaving Stockton Heath Primary School. In the countryside, John rolls down hills and climbs trees. The film ends with shots of John and his friends playing on the banks of the River Weaver. | |||

Children swimming at an outdoor swimming pool and a phantom ride in the family car on the Sefton to Aintree road. A woman throwing darts in the garden with the last one landing in a teddy bear in a baby's pram! In a dream sequence and using trick photography a man performs various magic tricks followed by a couple walking a dog. Titled 'Autumn 1939' we see a couple of girls shaking a conker tree and the leaves turning colour. Next 'Easter 1944' the twins Carol and Ann Cooke in a pram then in the garden with the grandparents.
