A glimpse of school life at the Holy Infants School in Bolton. Includes footage of various lessons attended by the senior years, such as technical drawing, bookbinding, model making, needlework and weaving. The infants class is seen playing games with their teacher in a nearby park. The film also features scenes from a school play produced entirely by the children. Includes 'behind-the-scenes' footage of the costume designers, stage carpenters, sound engineers and the percussion band.

ROYAL VISIT

A specially commissioned film of a visit by Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to the Harold French (now Rufflette) factory in Wytheshawe in 1949. Arriving by car to be greeted by various local dignitaries and enthusiastic crowds, they go on a tour of the factory, looking at various displays and watching aspects of the factory's manufacturing processes: most of the employees are women, and they are shown welding, weaving and operating machinery. After they leave, 1000 invited guests go on a tour of the factory, and there is a function with an 'orchestra' in the works dining room.
