The Dempseys stay at the Balqueen Hydro Hotel and take organised group daytrips around the island. They go rambling in the hills, on a boat trip to Chicken Rock Lighthouse, on a coach tour to Douglas, on a cycle ride to Rushen Abbey and a visit to Port Erin. There are scenes around the island including horse-drawn trams along the seafront, boats in the harbour, haymaking in the fields and The Witches Mill. We also see the group taking part in what appears to be a ballroom and country dance lesson. Mrs Dempsey is seeing taking photos of things that interest her, such as a seagull and a Manx cat. | |||

This film is about Fulwood Branch Library, the 80,000 books in the title refers to the fact that the Fulwood branch issued 80,000 books a year. In this film we see the library staff at work. They unpack new books from crates, prepare them for the shelves and later we see books being issued to library users. We see the staff at work shelving and doing various tasks around the library. We see the library users browsing the shelves and taking out books. The film shows us the full range of books on offer to demonstrate that there is something to suit everybody's taste, and we also see the children's library. We are shown the practical uses of the books. For example, we see cookery books, and then we see a lady in her kitchen at home using the book for recipes. There are similar scenes of people using the books to instruct them in gardening, decorating, bicycle maintenance, sewing, embroidery, crafts, tennis and cricket. We are shown the quick reference service, where people can telephone the library staff, who will look up information for them and relay it over the telephone. We also see various members of the Dempsey family at home enjoying their books. | |||

This is an amateur film, presumably produced by Preston Cine Club, John Dempsey was their founder member. We see a short sequence of events. We see men going up some stairs in a building, looking furtive. One of the men enters the room where a man at a desk gives him something hidden in a box of matches. The other man spies on them through the keyhole. After one of the men has left the room, the man spying on them enters and ties up the other man. He injects him with syringe and appears to leave him alive, but in a noose attached to the ceiling. We then see two cleaners in the building, who debate entering the room but leave without doing so. So we are left in suspense as to the fate of the man tied up in the office. | |||
