MAKING TOOTAL TIES AT THE TOOTAL HEMMING WORKS MANCHESTER | |||

This film follows the process of making ties at the Tootal Hemming Works, Manchester. There are titles describing each stage of the process. We see cloth hooking, marking the outline of ties on cloth using chalk and cutting to size. The bias lining is cut in a similar way. The tape lining is cut on rollers and the linings are joined together. We then see the four stages of hemming. All pieces are joined together, then we see the iron pressing of seams and the sewing in of the lining. The ties are turned right side out and then they are ironed and inspected. The ties are boxed and given a final inspection. We also see a shorter sequence showing how the 'black quality' ties which have a satin lining are made differently. | |||

The sergeant major talks to Diana Dors and tries to persude her to accompany him in his sports car only for the car to break down. Next we see Frank being massaged for a fight and then the wrestling match itself with Diana offering help and encouragement. | |||
