ROYAL VISIT TO BOLTON

10th July 1913.Outside the Electric Theatre Deansgate, and on its balconies, crowds gather to await the King and Queen. The decorated streets are also crowded with people, and groups of boys, girls and nurses gather for a procession. The King and Queen arrive by car and mount a dais. There is a short ceremony and they leave, again by car. [The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]

BUILDING A MOTOR CAR

This shows the making of a car at the Vulcan works in Southport. The sequence shows the process from beginning to end - making and assembling the engine, building the chassis, fitting the engine and a temporary body, a test drive, making the permanent body and finally painting and upholstering. There are scenes inside the factory and shots of finished Vulcans leaving the factory. The workers are shown leaving at the end of the day.

They assemble in the grounds, and kneel to pray; a service takes place by an altar. A procession led by a priest follows, which includes boy scouts and men in the Services.

Includes uniformed brass band; mounted police; Rose Queen and her followers, then views of girls dancing in white dresses; fancy dress; ragtime band; floats; fire brigade. The public disperse. 10th July 1913. A royal visit to Bolton - the camera pans the waiting crowds; King George V and Queen Mary arrive by car, mount a platform, and are introduced to various civic dignitaries.
 
 
 
FUNERAL OF OUR BELOVED CHIEF CONSTABLE ASHTON-U-LYNE

Opens with footage of mourners boarding horse-drawn carriages. Cuts to pall bearers carrying the coffin of Chief Constable John Snell down a crowd lined street. A clergyman, the Rev. W.J. Parry, is seen leading the cortège into the church grounds of St James on Union St Ashton, before the carriages deliver the remaining mourners, who also enter the grounds. An open carriage full of wreaths is seen prior to the funeral procession leaving the church grounds. The coffin is carried by carriage up Penny Meadow and into Mossley Rd, flanked by crowds, preceded by a marching band and policemen.
