Family scenes from the Leach family, the film opens with scenes from Christmas 1968. We see Andrew with his new toys and the family pulling crackers at their Christmas dinner. This is followed by snow scenes. Andrew plays on tricycle in the snow covered garden, accompanied by the dog. There are scenes from what appears to be a playgroup. Children play on slides and swings inside in a classroom like area. There are beach scenes, the children play on the beach and in dinghies. We see views from the window of a moving steam train. The train arrives in Porthmadog and we see the family exploring the area. This is followed by scenes from Conwy, where the family visit the Smallest House and the castle. The family visit an outdoor pool and a zoo and then there are scenes from another family Christmas. The extended family are all in the living room. They open their presents and the children play. Children play in the garden on a slide and a tricycle. On a holiday in Anglesey we have views of a lighthouse and beach scenes from a holiday in Devon. | |||

Fire engines are seen outside Pauldens Store in Manchester, and there is a detailed demonstration of an Elna sewing machine. The father is seen painting one of the family business' vans (Sew Knit). The family take a holiday to Portugal in 1970, visiting Lisbon and the seaside, watching fisherman making nets. They are seen at home at Christmas, and there are scenes from 500cc car racing at Oulton Park with Stirling Moss. The father has a car accident near London and another accident with a overturned tanker is also seen. Back in England children attend Jonathan Salem's birthday party in Sale, where they are entertained by a puppeteer and a ventriloquist. Curious children play on the refurbished playground equipment and watch as the gardening, and the laying of a flag floor, continue. At night, a Christmas party is held in the nursery, and couples dance, eat, drink and play games. Various acts in fancy dress take part in a talent show. | |||

[THE LAST DAYS OF STEAM; RAINHILL TRIALS 150TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS] | |||

The film opens with scenes from 1968 at Rainhill Railway Station. Crowds await the arrival of the last steam train that will depart the station. We then see a series of events from the Rainhill Trials 150th Anniversary Celebrations, running from 1979 to 1980, including Ken Dodd opening an event, the St. Anne's Church Flower Festival, and a model railway exhibition. There are scenes from the Grand Celebration Dance featuring the final of the Miss Rainhill Rocket Competition and Rainhill Open Scout Group presents a Railway Film Night showing archive film of steam trains. Events continue in reel 2, with more scenes from the Rainhill Trials 150th Anniversary Celebrations, including an opening event for the Rainhill Trials Exhibition at Rainhill Station and a procession of steam trains and steam engines steaming past crowds of spectators - one of the trains is the Flying Scotsman. More scenes of people looking around stalls at the event, and then we see the steam trains and engines again, this time going through Rainhill Station. | |||
