Off cuts and out takes from 'Selection Box', a film made by members of the Hatherlow Young People's Fellowship. YPF committee members come up with ideas for films. 'Son of Metropolis' features shots of a modern city (St Peter's Square, Hulme, Piccadilly Hotel and other Manchester tower blocks) and an inventor trying out his 'drive-able chair'. A second idea shows two men challenging each other to a duel to see who gets the girl and the final idea showcases club facilities with young people playing badminton. There follow out takes from the rest of the film together with family scenes including Jane and Christine playing with the family dog. We then see the Skelly family on a day out. They enjoy a picnic and then we see the Skelly children, along with other children, feeding and petting a deer in the car park. The children push an adult on a rope swing. Back home Paul and Kay pose for the camera holding their dogs.

The Shalks family album begins with Mrs Shalks leaving home for the maternity hospital, Aspland Maternity Home, and then we see a nurse carrying a new born baby girl, Julie, from the hospital. We then see lots of scenes of the baby girl at home and in the garden playing, being bathed and fed by her mother. There are holiday scenes from the Ofir Hotel, Portugal. We see the family around the hotel pool, Julie plays by the pool and in the pool with her father. We see Julie playing on the beach and in a playground and there is a also a folk dancing scene.

Some of the people in fancy dress hold banners with messages about nurses' pay and inflation. At the carnival the vicar presents a man to the spectators, and the man is then presented with a flower for his button hole. We see maypole dancing and scenes from the garden fete that follows the procession.

Brownies attend a Manchester Police Horse display before visiting Pets Corner at Platt Fields in Rusholme. Also includes trips on the Ravenglass and Eskdale / Lakeside and Haverthwaite railways and a view of Princes Street in Edinburgh from the castle.
