After shots of documents showing the various Preston guilds (weavers and butchers, for example), the film shows celebrations of (roughly) a thousand years of guilds in Preston. A procession moves through the town, including numerous floats from public and commercial organisations. They include breweries, textiles companies, trades unions, the army, brass bands and vintage cars. Participants include mounted policemen, bikini-clad women, the Michelin man and children, while the more unusual floats feature giant armchairs, ice-cream cones, dinosaurs and a huge Santa Claus.

There is a sequence involving a marriage proposal prior to footage of the second wedding. A man disturbs a woman while she is engaged in some embroidery - they kiss, he goes down on one knee and puts a ring on her finger. Following shots of their wedding day they are seen walking around an ornamental garden. One of the brides is also seen with a baby at the close of the film.

Various novelty sporting games are played by members of staff at Winwick Hospital (one involves female players trying to peg out washing while sitting on the shoulders of male colleagues). There is also footage of a small child playing with a ball and a balloon, followed by recourse to the paddling pool.
