LOOK, STRANGER: ARTIST IN A CHANGING CITY

A documentary on the Salford artist Harold Riley begins with views of Salford and the City Art Gallery before Harold talks about about his figurative paintings of Salford people. We see inside his soon to be demolished studio and views of the old and modern city of Salford. Harold Riley teaches local children how to draw and paint then walks his dog by the Manchester Ship Canal where he reminices about the old Salford, its streets, shops and characters. A dinner party with friends and family is followed by Harold discussing his portrait paintings and how these fund his other works. The film ends with Harold arriving at Buckingham Palace with a commisioned portrait of the Duke of Edingbrugh Prince Phillip.

The second film is 'Counterfeit' about a group of fraudsters and their shady customers. The third film is 'Dr Spot' a comic tale of contagious spotty diseases. The final short film is 'First and Last' and shows how to jump the queue at the sales.

A compilation of events held in Burnley during 1973 beginning with Burnley Show featuring shire horses, pony riding fancy dress and a wrestling match. Next we have a Gala Day held at Barden School and featuring a bed race and a dog show. The 22nd annual youth band concert is next with various marching bands. Scenes from a funfair are followed by Mr Pearce's model carousel. The Evening Star grand putting tournament is held in a park and we see the teenage winners being handed their trophies. The Lucas company gala and fete is next with various small funfair rides, budgie show and stalls. After a schools its a knockout style competition we have nice footage from and around Turf Moor football ground followed by a carnival parade, school girl volleyball and Highland dancing.
 
 
 
[THE QUEEN MOTHER SAILS PAST, AND OTHER SCENES]

After a helicopter display, the Queen Mother sails past moored narrow boats and watching onlookers, waving to them as she passes. There are views of a narrow boat under construction, and scenes in the park, where dogs run around, and a cricket match is underway.
