A compilation of scenes from the Hopwood family. We see the family celebrating Christmas at home. They open their presents in the sitting room, and later have drinks. Food is prepared in the kitchen. There are scenes from a family holiday to Spain, we see the family on the beach and visiting local sights. They stay at the Poseidon Hotel, and there are shots in the room and out on the balcony. We also see a camping holiday in Devon, there are scenes from the campsite and beach. A woman in the garden puts out the washing on a very windy day. We also see a 21st birthday celebration, people are seated to eat and later there is dancing, and there are scenes from a wedding where we see the newlyweds as they are showered with confetti outside the church.

A playschool worker outlines some of the advantages of playschools, and the parents of a young boy called Gerald contrast the stresses and frustrations of being cooped up with a restless child, with the relaxation and improvement in the moods of both the parents and the child since Gerald began playschool.

Includes footage on collecting the raw material (minerals, rocks and fossils), of lectures on the subject and of people working on machinery. Also includes scenes from a Gem Fayre at Bury College of Further Education with displays of jewellery, demonstrations and models. The fayre was attended by local MP Frank White and his family who received gifts from the society.

Film of the opening of Batley's Cash and Carry warehouse at the Walton Summit site of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation (now known as English Partnerships). Lawrence Batley, founder of Batley's and Sir Frank Pearson, Chairman of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation, make speeches, the picture occasionally cutting to aerial views of the warehouse. Sir Frank Pearson officially opens the warehouse, he and Mr Batley are seen walking along the aisles, as are the small crowd who attended the opening. A tray of various pickles is presented to a representative of a children's home, pulling a trolley of similar donations.

Film of the commencement of the Farington Link Road by Faircloughs on behalf of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation (now known as English Partnerships). Sir Frank Pearson, Chairman of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation is seen delivering a speech to a small crowd, including members of the press. A British Leyland spokesman also makes a speech, the road will benefit them. Aerial footage of the Leyland Motors plant is seen during part of the speech. The British Leyland representative commences construction by operating a menchanical digger.

Bellways managing director Mr Bell, is seen making some introductory remarks before Sir Frank Pearson, Chairman of the Central Lancashire Development Corporation delivers a speech and declares the houses open. The crowd tour the homes, the film closes with a shot of the street.
