LOWER WITHINGTON ROSE QUEEN FESTIVAL 1977

The festival parade begins with a girls' dance troupe, a marching brass band, people in fancy dress and decorated floats pulled by tractors. The Rose Queens are seen in a convertible vintage car with a horse drawn carriage bringing up the rear of the festival parade. A parade of floats is followed by the coronation ceremony of the Rose Queen and the prize giving for the fancy dress and decorated bicycles. The prizes are awarded for the decorated floats followed by shots of the coconut shy, a children's carousel and a child eating an ice cream.

Scenes from a father and son 5th Sale and Ashton cub scout camp. We see the adults sat by the cooking pot then playing cricket with the boys followed by bthe cubs sat around the campfire singing. The boys playing football then building wooden frames before walking in the countryside. Next we see the boys playing swingball, cooking sausages before packing up the tents. The film ends with a prizegiving with the boys handing their fathers a certificate.

ROUND AND ABOUT ST. ANDREWS CHURCH 1977-8

On Missionary Sunday, Mr. K. Ogden CMS missionary from Sudan was the preacher at the morning service at St Andrews Parish church. Outside the church he chats with the ladies of the missionary fellowship. On Remembrance Sunday, a procession makes its way through Cleveleys. The service takes place at the Thornton-Cleveleys war memorial. On Shrove Tuesday, a concert was organised by the Men's Fellowship. During the interval Mr. Tom Bond received a gift to celebrate 25 years of being the churchwarden. At an open evening, the 1976 Sunday school Queen Karen Fairbrother exhibits examples of her work and progress which helped her earn the Queen's Guide award. The certificate is presented to her by the Division Commissioner. On Mothering Sunday, mothers and children as well as the Sunday school Queen arrive at St Andrews church for the family service. On Easter Sunday the clergy and youth of the church enjoy breakfast together after the morning mass. In the following scene, members of the Music and Movement group wait for a bus outside St Andrews church which would take them to Singleton. In May, a sponsored walk around the local churches was held to raise money for Christian Aid Week. Members of the Young Wives Fellowship organised a car treasure hunt. This year the Mothers Union Deanery Festival was held at St John's Parish Church in Blackpool. The members of St Andrews parish arrive in Blackpool and make their way into the church for the service. During the annual Gala Day we see bands and people in fancy dress march through Cleveleys. St Andrews Sunday school Queen Helen takes part in the Queen section. In the next scene, guests arrive at St Andrews church for the wedding of Brian Bollington and Patricia M. Berry. The bride arrives with her father and enters the church. The bride and groom exit and have photographs taken on the church grounds. In July, the Sunday school festival was held which included a procession around the parish. That July the new Sunday school Queen was crowned and a small procession was held in the church car park. Later in July members of the Mothers Union visited St Laurence's Church Morecambe for the flower festival. In August, members of St Andrews Parish church travelled to St Helens Church in Churchtown to visit the country market. There was also an exhibition of country arts and flower arrangements. Guests arrive at St Andrews church for the wedding of Lindsay H. Broscombe and Valerie E. Dean. After the service the bride and groom pose for photographs outside the church. In September, some members of St Andrews church travelled to St Paul's Church in Marton for the visit of the Bishop of Bloemfontein Frederick Amoore. In the next scene, a procession lead by the Thornton-Cleveleys brass band takes place around Cleveleys to commemorate the Battle of Britain. In late September, members of St Andrews church welcome Reverend Arthur Moon as he arrives at the church, he was to be the preacher at the morning's service. Children of the Sunday school can be seen heading to church with their gifts for the harvest festival.

The boys are next seen enjoying a funfair ride then building sandcastles and paddling in the sea at Abersoch. In a snowy garden mark and Tim build a snowman with the help of the neighbours. In the Lake District, Mark plays in the garden in front of a caravan followed by Tim in the garden, Mark on a wall and finally the boys play fighting.

The Smith family stay in a chalet on Landscove Holiday Village in Brixham, Devon. They visit Berry Head and Brixham harbour and walk around the town. They watch the Paignton and Dartmouth steam train pull into Kingswear station and watch boats leave the Dartmouth harbour, before taking a boat trip themselves towards Dartmouth Castle. At the chalet, Mrs Smith makes jelly and writes postcards before taking a coastal walk with her husband and daughter Hazel. Michael watches cricket on the television, the family take another boat trip and visit Paignton Zoo where they see various animals and feed the zebras.
