Narrator Deryck Guyler tours Liverpool with his nephew and speaks to experts from the Corporation to satisfy the questions of his inquisitive companion. After initial scenes on a Mersey ferry and the city streets, Guyler visits the Silver Room at the Town Hall, the Parks Department and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. Shots of industrial work at Speke (distilled water and tyre production) precede footage of motor racing at Aintree, and the ventilation system for the Mersey Tunnel. Guyler views plans for the rebuilding of the city centre, stonemasons work on the Anglican Cathedral and there are scenes inside the Liver Building clock. The film ends with a performance by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a montage of the city at work and play.
