Film of the royal opening of the Shell Mex and BP terminal at Haydock on 12th June 1969 by Princess Alexandra. A crowd of children are seen outside the site awaiting her arrival. The Princess and Mr Greave, the site director, are seen giving speeches in front of a crowd in a temporary grandstand before the Princess opens the terminal by switching on the traffic lights allowing the oil tankers to leave. The Princess tours the site, on foot and in a car, and the various processes involved in oil storage and delivery are seen. The Princess visits the canteen before leaving in the Royal Car. | |||
