With the use of both film and stills we get a brief history of Manchester's cotton industry and the cotton famine caused by the American Civil War followed by the planning and opening of the park in 1870. Next we see how the park has been used for political protests such as May Day and Suffragette Rallies, to modern day Black Lives Matter protests. After the centenary celebrations the park falls into a decline which is halted by the Friends of Alexandra Park and a lottery sum of £4.5 million. Finally, we see the park as it is today with its many activities and being used by all members of the community. | |||
