Continues with brief shots of a zoo, a funfair and a young man smoking. Also contains footage of a game of tennis and shots of boats on Heaton Park lake (some of this footage is speeded up). Continues with footage from a factory, showing machines and people working, and some hot tar (?). Mr and Mrs Preston on holiday in Blackpool. Includes shots of the promenade and beach. Trams are seen travelling along the rail section between Bispham and Fleetwood. People board and alight from the tram at various stops along the line. The rest of the film focuses on Manchester streetscenes - including shots of a power station, swing bridge and a steam train departing from a station. [The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]

The film begins with shots of illuminated trams, buildings and streets in Blackpool (some of the illuminations are based on nursery rhyme themes). Further miscellaneous footage includes a group of sailors and other members of the crew wearing lifejackets on board ship; landscape shots of a foreign coastline and two kittens drinking from a saucer on top of a table. Concludes with busy streetscenes in Stockport including shots of Mersey Square. [The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]

CAVALCADE OF BURNLEY

A record of local events in Burnley from 1932 through to 1950. Features a 1932 Hospital Carnival, a Burnley v Luton football match from 1935 and the last tram to run in the town on 7th May 1935. Wartime footage includes the activities of the Burnley Home Guard and a 'Wings for Victory' parade along Colne Road in 1943. King George VI visits Burnley on 8th March 1945 before newspaper headlines announce the end of the war and there are shots of street parties, dancing outside the Town Hall, fires being lit, a thanksgiving service at St Peters Church and an outdoor concert and ceremony at Towneley Park. The film ends with footage from the 1950 General Election at which local Labour MP Wilfrid Burke retains his seat. Views of work on the construction and launch of a number of boats at the Yarwood's of Northwich boatyard. Boats including the 'Trefoil' and Hopper No. 4 are launched sideways into the river. Men are seen at work assembling platework and fastening it to the ribs of the hull. Also seen are liners including the Queen Mary in dock, and boats on a river (probably built by Yarwood's). ROYAL VISIT TO BURNLEY 1945 [CORNISH PARADE AND SEASIDE HOLIDAYS]

Preparations for the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Burnley on March 8th 1945, followed by a carnival parade (possibly in Cornwall) and scenes from seaside holidays. Three men make and receive telephone calls before meeting in an office. Workers decorate Burnley Town Hall and erect a covered stage outside Manchester Road station. Dignitaries arrive by car, crowds line the streets and there is a brief shot of a book signed by the King and Queen. The film cuts to a parade that moves down what appears to be a Cornish town street, before there is seaside holiday footage from Cleveleys (featuring a stage show by the Cleveleys Jolly Tars) and Douglas and shots of a lido (possibly at St. Annes). CHESTER

A travelogue on Chester - a policeman directs traffic in a busy street. People are shopping and passing by and there is plenty of traffic. We see Chester Rows, Bridge Street, Bridgegate; then to the River Dee with pleasure boats and the Eccleston Ferry. We see houses on the banks and Eaton Hall. There are many examples of Tudor style timbered buildings, shots of salmon fishing, the city walls, King Charles' Tower, the Bridge of Sighs, Edgar's cave and other historic sites. We see Roman columns from the Praetorium and an amphitheatre is described with a model. There is a long sequence on Chester Cathedral, followed by other interesting houses, including God's Providence House and Bishop Lloyd's House. Closes with shots from the river looking towards the city.
