[SCOUTS' TRIP TO FRANCE]

At Alderwasley Hall School the Boy Scouts members board a minibus, students wave to them as the bus departs. Shots of London then Dover harbour. On board the Maid of Kent they depart from Dover and head to Paris. Rural scenes in Ireland, they visit friends and family and help cut and collect turf. The film cuts back to the youth group in France, helping a local farmer on his farm. They tidy up after having some food outdoors.

Footage of the workings of George Pickford's coal yard in Oldham. The film begins with a line-up of Pickford's coal merchant lorries outside the coal yard. Lorries enter the yard and the men load coal into sacks and onto the flat bed of the lorries. The film ends with shots of a train yard and the unloading of coal from the train.

A woman and two young men walk in the garden then enjoy a canal baoat journey. Riding horses, rowing boats and line fishing then the extended Riding family pose for the camera in the garden. The Runcorn to Widnes transporter bridge followed by a holiday in Scotland. One of the sons in his graduation gown with his proud parents followed by the daughter graduating from Liverpool University. Mr Riding and his daughter on her wedding day pose for photos with the groom, bridesmaids, friends and family.

Compilation reel of Blackburn community events - Whit walks, in which St Thomas's banner features prominently, and floats and a pipe band on the streets for the local carnival. Also features scenes of a school sports day - school girls and boys are seen participating in various track and field events. Parents spectate from seats situated around the running track. Concludes with shots of teacher and children filing out of a church on Founders' Day.
 
 
 
[HANNA FAMILY HOLIDAYS - SCOTLAND]

Scenes from a holiday to Scotland, including Dumfriesshire, Ayrshire, Argyll and St. Andrews. The Hanna family eat a picnic and wash cups in a river, walk in the ruins of Loch Doon Castle and travel on the Rest and Be Thankful road to Cairndow and Loch Fyne. After shots of military ships in a loch, there is footage of the esplanade at Helensburgh and Scotland's First House at Gretna. The family play golf at St. Andrews and visit the castle ruins. The film ends with a mixture of shots including a statue of Robert Burns in Dumfries and wedding guests waving to a car as it drives off. Footage showing sisters Judith and Vanessa Moss celebrating their 9th and 4th birthday parties, boating on the lake at Heaton Park and playing at home on tricycles with friends. There are general shots of the family home, 'Amulree,' and back garden in the rain. The Moss children pose for the camera dressed up in colourful costumes made of scarves. The compilation also includes a short sequence showing the Queen Mary ocean liner in Southampton [?] harbour and brief beach holiday shots taken in Bournemouth.
 
 
 
CAMERA ON SAFETY

The Stretford borough council, through its Safety Committee, does everything possible to avoid accidents - road signs urging motorists to 'drive carefully'. You must assist them by being more safety wise - examples of 'good' and 'bad' behaviour; a young boy is knocked down after running into the road after his ball and is taken to Park hospital - shots of the casualty department and the childrens' ward; other children are seen doing their kerb drill, and crossing the road safely using the zebra crossing and helped by the school crossing patrol. Bicycle safety - the correct way to ride a bicycle; examples of bicycle defects; the Stretford Wheelers cycling club. Children playing on the railway track and by the canal - one falls in and is 'drowned'.
 
 
 
A BURN'S MISCELLANY

Friends and family smoking and drinking at the Hogmanay party with many wearing party hats then couples doing the 'St Andrews Dance'. A ferry boat journey to Bute and Dunoon in Scotland with passengers feeding seagulls. A waterfall, pub exteriors and Robert Burns' birthplace with shots of its interiors and gardens. A Burns' Night party with the piping in of the haggis, speeches being made and the awarding of a medal. A group of men sat at tables drinking and smoking is followed by a coach trip to Burns' country with stops at Gretna Green, Sweetheart Abbey and Rockcliffe gardens. On the annual outing in 1964 we see a meal in a hotel followed by a visit to the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey.

In the kitchen Mrs Derbyshire makes pastry and a pie watched by a little boy. Decorating the Christmas tree and hanging up paper decorations and balloons on the ceiling. The little boy putting on his pyamas and putting up his stocking then on Christmas morning opening his presents followed by pulling crackers at Christmas lunch. Scenes from a game of crown green bowls and the presentation of trophies to the winners. Views of Blackpool from Central Pier and people on the promenade. Exteriors of Deepdale the home of Preston North End and match action in front of a large crowd of spectators.
