A look at life and work on a colonial tea plantation in Sri Lanka. A British woman and her daughter receive visitors for afternoon tea on the lawn, with a servant in attendance. On the plantation itself, the workers are filmed during different stages of tea production, the men clearing more land for planting, and the women picking the tea leaves. Crops are sprayed with pesticide, and picked leaves are sorted, weighed and dispatched by lorry. The workers then queue to receive their wages in cash and there are scenes at the local market, where foodstuffs and textile items are for sale. | |||

Schoolboys play 'Ireland vs England' in the grounds of Hollies Convent School, girls in uniform stand and watch, a sign on the school gates reads 'Great International Football Match'. Later the Craven children play together outside their home. The family business truck can be seen parked outside the house. Family and friends at an airfield, some men can be seen flying and looking at various small aeroplanes, includes a shot of the cockpit of one of the planes. A few people go for a ride in one of the planes. Back at the school and the 'England vs Ireland game', the winning team celebrates and play with their friends and family. Later the two teams pose together for a school photograph and receive their trophies. In separate scenes the family spend time together in the garden, the young boy rides his bicycle and the young girl roller skates. Later the two young girls take part in a Whit Walk. Later the adults and children take part in the sports day activities such as sack races and sprint races. Back home the children play leapfrog in the garden. | |||

The film begins with information regarding an accident that happened early one morning in August 1955. It explains how a Bedford lorry coming from Knutsford, swung around a corner but the swing bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal was open. The lorry's brakes were also faulty and ended up crashing into the canal, fortunately the driver survived the crash. Crowds gather to watch as a diver emerges from the water. Men can be seen fixing the hawsers on the lorry and a floating crane hoists the vehicle out of the water. On May 6th 1958, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother visited Warrington. Crowds gather on the lawns of Warrington Town Hall to catch a glimpse of the Queen Mother. After arriving in a royal car she is greeted by local dignitaries, she signs a visitors book and is presented with flowers. The Queen Mother waves to the crowds before departing. | |||
