WORK AND PLAY [CROSSLEY ROAD DAY NURSERY]

Film of a day at Crossley Road Day Nursery, Burnage. The film open with views of the nursery's pre-fabricated buildings before footage of children playing in and around a paddling pool, being hosed down by staff. Children are also seen on a swing and a slide as well as in a sandpit and a playpen. There are shots of children playing and eating and of the staff having a cup of tea and preparing food. The film continues with a lesson in a picture festooned classroom before some of the children are seen leaving. The film closes with animated footage of the moon snoring.

A wedding reception, featuring guests mingling and dancing (including Mr and Mrs Wintrobe), and the bride and groom. Following this is footage of a fete taking place in a school playground. The Wintrobe girls are seen on the swings, and there are lots of stalls and amusements including a small merry go round. Final shots of the family in the garden, Mrs Wintrobe sunbathing, Carole playing with a doll; and painting the yard fence.

Nigel and David Rice are seen opening their presents, including a Thunderbirds rocket and a toy panda, on Christmas Day in 1966. The family all sit down to Christmas dinner, pull crackers and wear silly hats. There are views of the elephants at Belle Vue circus, as well as brief scenes of seagulls following a tractor in a field. The Rice family are also seen opening presents and enjoying dinner on Christmas Day in 1967 and 1968.
 
 
 
BUSBY BABES ARE BORN LIKE THIS

A group of lads and two adults are seen playing football on Beech Avenue Field in Timperley. The Rice family take a trip to Chester Zoo - views of the different animals and birds, including a gorilla playing with its keeper. Another day trip to Alton Towers is also seen - with David and Nigel enjoying a donkey ride, and views of the gardens.

Scenes from Altricham CHA (Countryside Holidays Association) holiday to Cornwall. The members are seen posing for photographs outside the hotel in Newquay. During the holiday, they are seen at a number of beaches, walking along clifftops and visiting some of the towns and villages in the area, including Mevagissey, Tintagel and Falmouth.

[WORK ON THE KINGSWAY TUNNEL]

The ceremonial cutting of the first sod for the Liverpool to Wallasey Tunnel, January 1966 is followed by views of digging work on the tunnel. Scenes from a ceremony to mark the meeting of the two ends of the tunnel, and of a local dignitary pressing a button to detonate explosives. An excavator is seen at work in an old railway cutting, and there are views of boats on the Mersey and of houses being demolished.
 
 
 
[BLACKPOOL AND CAROLE'S FOURTH BIRTHDAY]

Scenes around Blackpool. The film opens with the Wintrobe family on the pier - a sign for a children's show features Mickey Mouse. The inside of a theatre is seen, with children on stage with a clown, and a puppet show. We follow the family around the town, including internal shots of the hotel Lindum and the hotel room: the two Wintrobe girls sitting on the bed giggling; Carole in her mother's arms; waving for the camera. Outside footage includes scenes at a funfair, walking along the seafront, trams and Christmas lights (poss. Illuminations?). The remainder of the film features Carole's fourth birthday party: food, balloons, children in party hats enjoying themselves.

On board and on shore scenes from a Spanish (?) cruise. Two women are seen walking around a town, and relaxing on the ship, eating ice cream. There are views out to sea, of the harbour and a lighthouse. Lifeboat drill is seen, and a woman swimming in the ship's pool sporting a large bouffant hairstyle. Final scenes in London - at the Cenotaph, a Remembrance Day parade.

Family holiday in Jersey, starting with a plane landing at the airport. Underexposed shots inside a museum of Nazi equipment follow. There are views of the coast, country roads, a suburban street. Seaside scenes - Carole Wintrobe digging in the sand and playing with a feather, a close up of a man sunbathing in a deckchair, Mr and Mrs Wintrobe putting up the top on a black convertible Triumph. Scenes in Howard Davis Park, including a lily pond. A graveyard of unknown soldiers. The date on a copy of the Daily Mirror is Wednesday June 14 1967. There are final brief shots of the family dressed up for a wedding.
