Cutting and collecting rushes from the banks of a reservoir and canal, being bundled and carried away. The cart, named Beryl, has a metal frame on which the bundles of rushes are placed to build a tower like structure. We see the various stages of construction, which takes over six months to complete until the cart is being pulled through the streets of Uppermill by a group of army volunteers. The cart, with a man sat on top of the rushes drinking, ends its journey at King George V playing fields with a brass band and dancing from the Manchester Morris Men. | |||
