The fathers and sons of the 1st Stretford scout troop cook beans and tomatoes over open fires. Later the group goes canoeing along a river. Back at the campsite they take part in a pioneering project, using ropes and wood to create a structure. One group create a catapult that fires wooden stakes.

Everyone is dressed in fancy dress costumes and there is dancing and games such as bobbing for apples and pass the parcel. Nappies on the washing line then a Christening plate with 'Mark, born 14th January 1971'. Mark in his pram, being held by his mum then in the garden with dad. Trying to crawl on a blanket then Mark bouncing in a harness in the garden followed by trying to rid himself of a woollen hat. After being in his cot we see Mark crawling, being fed in his high chair then pushing a pram in the garden. The film ends with Mark in the garden playing with a ball and in a harness held by his grandmother.
 
 
 
SADDLEWORTH FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

Filmed on the opening day of the Saddleworth Arts Festival, Saturday 22nd May 1971. It begins with a brass band playing in Uppermill followed by a Rush cart being pulled through the streets on a two mile journey to the King George V playing fields with a man sat atop the tower of rushes. Manchester's Lord Mayor, Lord and Lady Rose and the Duke and Duchess of Westminster arrive and officially open the festival at the Civic Hall. At the playing fields we see the Rush cart arrive then we take a brief tour of the 'Saddleworth at work' exhibition. Finally we see children's funfair rides, a tug-o-war between rival pubs and dancing from the Manchester Morris Men.
 
 
 
[RUSH CART AT SADDLEWORTH FESTIVAL 1971]

Cutting and collecting rushes from the banks of a reservoir and canal, being bundled and carried away. The cart, named Beryl, has a metal frame on which the bundles of rushes are placed to build a tower like structure. We see the various stages of construction, which takes over six months to complete until the cart is being pulled through the streets of Uppermill by a group of army volunteers. The cart, with a man sat on top of the rushes drinking, ends its journey at King George V playing fields with a brass band and dancing from the Manchester Morris Men.

Scenes from the 1971 Manchester Grammar School trekking holiday in Switzerland and Italy. The film opens with shots of the students disembarking from a boat. We then see them trekking in all weather conditions and there are scenes from their campsites. We see them eating and cleaning their boots. There are many views of the alpine scenery, including views of the Matterhorn, and we also see a shot a cable car.

The wedding guests arrive at the church where photographs are taken on the steps. The bridesmaids and flower girls arrive at the church followed by the bride. Church interiors with wedding guests walking down the aisle then the bride and groom pose for photographs with bridesmaids, family and friends. Children play with a football and play catch in the garden.
 
 
 
[A WEDDING; GIRL IN THE FARMYARD]

Friends and family arrive at the church for the wedding and pose for photographs before the bride arrives. The bride and groom exit the church and have more pictures taken. Guests throw confetti on the newlyweds as they make their way to the wedding car. The film then cuts to Patricia and a young girl on the farm with some horses, the young girl plays on a toy tractor. In the next scene a group of children play with some balloons and other toys. The film ends with Patricia accompanying the young girl as she takes part in a horse trial.

MOTORWAY THROUGH THE LUNE VALLEY

A documentary record of the work and workers involved in the construction of the Killington to Tebay stretch of the M6 motorway passing through the Lune Valley. The film combines scenes from modern road building techniques with historical and geological information on the area, and also includes workers' leisure activities and the housing and school provision made for their families. We finally see aerial views of the completed motorway section and traffic in the wider landscape setting.
