[UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD - CHANCELLOR'S VISIT]

The film starts with shots of a model of Salford University campus site then the Duke of Edingburgh does a walking tour of the University. The Prince visits the Peel building as well as the science, computing and physical education laboratories. Views of Peel Park and the exteriors of various university buildings are followed by a brief history of the 'Royal College' and the foundation of the University. After brief shots of a graduation ceremony Prince Philip leaves the campus onboard a helicopter.

Produced in one night, this short comedy film features various nutty night school lessons beginning with an art class and magic life drawing. The next class is Male Hairdressing with magic hair restorer and a short sighted hairdresser armed with a cut throat razor. First Aid is the next class with bandages being applied to wounds inflicted by the tutor The film ends with the pupil entering the practical brain surgery class.

Carnival goers are greeted by a clown then the sea scout band march in formation on the showground. A motorcycle display team do stunt riding and jumps followed by a parachute team landing in the showground. A highland piped band march past then a female trapeze artist does her act high above the crowds. A trampoline demonstration is followed by a small group of soldiers doing a battle simulation. The film ends with more parachutists landing in the showground.
 
 
 
[IT'S A KNOCKOUT; BATTLE OF CARNFORTH]

It's a Knockout style games with a woman getting dressed in a barrel then being carried over an obstacle course. A children's sports day with wheelbarrow, three legged, egg and spoon and sack races followed by a tug-of-war. The Sealed Knot enactment of the Battle of Carnforth between the Cavaliers and Roundheads watched by crowds of spectators. More scenes from an It's a Knockout with teams competing on obstacle courses and the blue team being awarded medals and trophy.
 
 
 
[JOHN AND HELEN'S WEDDING]

The wedding party and guests arrive at the registry office; after the ceremony, they leave the building and are then seen at the reception venue in the countryside, where photographs are taken outside and people stand around and chat. Finally, the guests wave as the bridal couple drive away.

Scenes from the 'Peak Camp' for boy scouts and girl guides at Chatsworth in Derbyshire. The film opens with shots of a field filled with tents and then we see a procession. A band leads and a scout VIP follows on a horse and carriage. He later goes out to the crowds to meet and greet. We then see the scouts and guides taking part in a range of activities including archery, judo, fencing, canoeing, tug of war, trampolining, wrestling and abseiling.
 
 
 
[KNUTSFORD ROYAL MAY DAY FESTIVAL AND FAMILY SCENES]

A festival procession with decorated floats, costumed children, a drum band and Morris dancers, makes its way through the town streets, while on the festival field, there are stalls and a children’s funfair. At another outdoor event, people enjoy watching traction engines, and riding on a miniature railway. Family footage includes children out and about in a park, feeding birds in an aviary, having a tea party outdoors and playing with a ball in the back yard.

Scenes from the annual air show in Cheshire, featuring a wide range of aircraft, including a Spitfire, Vulcan bomber, Hercules transport plane and Harrier Jump Jet; there is also a display by the Red Arrows. The reel continues with steam heritage, and rail enthusiasts coming to see and climb aboard the ‘Flying Scotsman’. The film finishes with family holiday scenes in North Wales.

A procession with Morris dancers passes along the street, and after brief shots of a children’s ride at a funfair, the reel ends with children playing indoors and in their back yard.

CANAL CRUISE 1974

Beautiful scenic views of the countryside filmed from a moving canal boat. The scouts pull the canal boat from the towpath. We see a swan and her cygnets before the boat enters a lock. Later the boat reaches Harecastle Tunnel and turns around. At one point they pass the Narrowboat graveyard in Northwich, Cheshire. The scouts and leaders go swimming in the canal. Inside the boat they cook some food followed by views of the Anderton Boat Lift. The film ends with some scouts sunbathing on the roof of the canal boat as they drift through a rural landscape.
