SAVE YOUR COUNTRYSIDE / THE SANDSTONE TRAIL

Scenes from rural Cheshire along the Sandstone Trail and in Delamere Forest. They include a Christmas Tree Plantation and a logging operation adminstered by the Forestry Commission, and various hikers, joggers, dog-walkers and picnickers enjoying the woods. There is also footage of Tirley Garth stately home, with close-ups of various flowers and plants in the gardens. A canal trip is shown, with barges, geese and footage of a river, followed by shots of Beeston Castle. There are scenes of a Sealed Knot civil war re-enactment with costumes, parades in Chester town centre and a staged battle. Other footage is shot in Bulkeley Hill, Burwardsley and a candle-making factory.

Nairn Hutchinson Fulton Wilson, a Scottish dentist, leaves the 'Edinburgh Dental School' to seek his fortune in England. He and his wife travel south before arriving in Manchester, where he is seen in light-hearted consultation and teaching at Manchester Dental School before going on a pub crawl on his way home.

Simonstone blacksmith Ron Carter is filmed at his workshop near Burnley creating a ram's head fire poker. After shots of Mr Carter talking to children in a school playground, he is seen in his shop using a variety of tools to shape a wrought iron rod into a fire poker. The film concludes with Mr Carter displaying his work to visitors. Documentary looking at the setting up of a community festival in the Old Swan district of Liverpool. Scenes from a community meeting to launch the project are followed by preparations, with women sewing bunting and decorating the streets. During the festival, children take part in various entertainments and there are views of several different street theatre performances. A civil war battle is re-enacted, and the film ends with street parties, races, children singing and dancing into the night.

General footage of Salford is followed by a look at a typical week at Tower Grange. The girls are seen getting up in the morning, making their beds, doing chores, and taking part in various lessons. Footage of prayer groups, individual counselling sessions, meal times, needlework, as well as visits to the countryside, the local swimming pool and library, and work experience at a hairdressers.
