BURNLEY CINE CLUB 21 YEARS 1955-1976

A film celebrating 21 years of Burnley's Cine Club begins with members greeting each other outside the club then trophies and medals are awarded. 1950s Burnley street scenes are followed by the 1958 Hobbies Exhibition where the club have a stall showing the various gauges and cine equipment the members use. Examples of the club members films are next with members acting and playing with yo-yos and hula hoops. Street scenes of Burnley in 1976 are next then scenes from another exhibition with a young woman taking interest in the clubs activities. The film ends with members boarding a coach then 1950s street scenes inter-cut with present day (1976) street scenes.

[MOTOR VEHICLE TRADE SHOW]

A boys' parade on waste ground between blocks of flats with marching bands and banners followed by some tame deer in a country park, possibly Tatton. A group of children are seen jumping and swimming in a river then a car and motorcycle trade show with vehicles in various marquees with exhibitors from the North West. Rural scenes with ducks and ducklings on a river then an out door theatre concert in Edinburgh. After beach scenes we see a car rolling uphill at Croy Brae and a signpost for Moscow both of which are in Scotland. The film ends with a family stood in the front garden and two men in suits on the street.
 
 
 
OUR DAUGHTER'S WEDDING

Scenes from the marriage of Alison Jane Leach to Barry John Woodward at St Margaret's Church, Heywood, on 14th August 1976. We see family members, including the bride, leaving home and getting in the car. There are then shots of the church interior taken before the ceremony. We see the bride and groom after the ceremony. The newlyweds and their guests pose for photos and confetti is thrown. There are then scenes from the reception at The Mount Pleasant Hotel in Whitworth. We see the cake being cut. The party continues back home, and we see the guests in the garden sitting in deckchairs. There are also shots of the decorated 'Just Married' car.

[WOOLTON QUARRY AND STONEMASONS' YARD]

Scenes from Woolton Quarry, Merseyside - general views of the quarry, and workers are seen extracting blocks of stone using pneumatic drills and automatic saws. The stone is then lifted out of the quarry by cranes. Shots of stone masons working on the extracted blocks, shaping the stone precisely to the architect's designs (to be used later in the building of Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral). The process is documented in detail with the masons using both manual and automatic equipment, and the finished blocks are seen stacked up in the yard.

Scenes of building work at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral - the exterior is surrounded by scaffolding, and stonemasons are seen carving details into stone blocks. On the roof, blocks are lowered into place with cranes, and there views across to the Roman Catholic Cathedral. There are still photographs showing earlier stages of construction - including a visit by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and the damage done to the Anglican Cathedral after bombing during the war. General views of stone and wooden carvings, altars and flags inside the Cathedral.

The Doyle family with a group of friends take a skiing and sledging trip to the snow covered Derbyshire hills. The party are seen packing their van in preparation for the trip, on slopes close to a pub called The Setter Dog near Buxton and sledging on wooden sleighs. Includes brief speeded up and keyhole frame sequences of the family skiing. Scenes show deer walking amongst trees in the grounds of Lyme Park, the family sledging down slopes and taking hot refreshments.
 
 
 
[WELSH CASTLES AND FOSSIL HUNTING]

Major Lester CP School trip to Colomendy in North Wales. The children visit several castles including Ewloe Castle and Flint Castle, whilst also visiting a farmhouse during the first half of the film. The children carry out school work and fossil hunting, but they also relax by playing on swings and slides on a playground.

After the wedding, people are seen leaving the church, and then standing around, chatting and posing for photographs. ROUND AND ABOUT ST. ANDREWS CHURCH 1976-7

The bishop of Lancaster visits St Andrews church to meet and talk with members of the Ladies Guild. In the next scene, we see teachers and students of the Sunday school as they board the bus to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. On Mothering Sunday, the Sunday School Queen can be seen arriving for the church service. A baptism was also held at the same service. The Jones family pose for photographs outside the church. Friends and family arrive at the church for the wedding of Terence Victor Morrell and Janet Elizabeth Baron. The happy couple pose for photographs under the church porch to avoid the rain. On Easter Sunday the clergy and youth of the church enjoy breakfast together after the morning mass. In May, the Whalley Abbey fellowship staged the "May Merrymaking" festival as their contribution to the Dioceses and Jubilee celebrations. The bishop gives a speech followed by the Sunday school Queen competition, fancy dress parade and archery. Back home at St. Andrews, two men can be seen clearing out the constitutional hall which had suffered severe fire damage. Later in May, a sponsored walk was held to raise money for Christian Aid Week. Members of the St Andrews Sunday school visit St Wilfreds school for lunch after attending a morning service at Blackburn Cathedral for the Jubilee celebrations. A procession takes place through Blackburn to Witton Park where a variety of activities were held for the children. Children enjoy time on the miniature railway, the swing ride and the carousel. This year the Mothers Union Deanery festival was held in St Andrews Parish Church. On the 5th of June a united service was held at St Andrews to celebrate the Silver Jubilee. In attendance was the Mayor, councillors and Walter Clegg MP. In the next scene members of St Andrews parish attend the open air Eucharist held at Preston North End F.C. grounds. The Thornton-Cleveleys Gala took place on June the 11th, all the various floats can be seen making their way through the town. St. Andrews church held a week of joy and thanksgiving to celebrate the silver Jubilee of the Queen, the golden jubilee of the Diocese of Blackburn and the completion of the parish church. The morning service preacher was the Lord Bishop of Blackburn Robert Martineau who also consecrated the new church porches. The Jubilee exhibition was held in the church hall and included vintage cars, clothing and toys. The week of joy and thanksgiving came to an end with a special service by the former Bishop of Lancaster, Anthony Hoskyns-Abrahall. In the afternoon the annual Sunday school procession was held. Next is the crowning of the new Sunday school Queen Helen Whinfield followed by sword dancers. A Sunday service was held to commemorate the Battle of Britain, it was attended by the mayor of the Wyre borough council and other civic dignitaries. In late September, children of the Sunday school can be seen heading to church with their gifts for the harvest festival.
 
 
 
[STALYBRIDGE, STOCKPORT & MOSSLEY CARNIVALS]

Three carnival parades held in Stalybridge, Stockport and Mossley. Each parade features decorated floats, fancy dress, majorettes, marching bands and decorated cars with the regions carnival queens either on the bonnet or in the boot of the car waving to the crowds. The Stalybridge parade also features children in fancy dress on horseback, a motorcycle club and at the showground cheerleaders and marching bands. Prior to the Stockport parade we see the carnival queens cars being decorated and at the Mossley event the stalls being erected and cars being decorated with paper flowers.
