[BEACH AND SCHOOL SPORTS DAY] | |||

A group of children in canoes on a boating lake followed by a trip to the beach where they play in the sand and build sandcastles. At the school sports day, children and adults take part in various activities such as three legged race, egg and spoon race and sack race. Groups of children parade around an athletics track, including a group from St Paul's Kersal and from St Clements Broughton. In the school yard, children play and climb on a climbing frame. On the beach, the group play in the water and some children abseil down a stone wall using a rope. At the train station, the group wait for their train on the platform. At the playground by the beach, the children play on the merry-go-round and swings. A the sports day children take part in the long jump and hurdles. The children play games in the school grounds as well do head stands on the grass. Some of the school children practice their ballet dancing in the school yard followed by drama rehearsals. During a trip out on a boat, the children feed food to seagulls. Later the group play a game of rounders on the beach. Crowds can be seen at an agricultural show followed by horse racing. Later the children work on a home-made model village they have made. They visit a zoo where they see a variety of wild animals such as lions and polar bears. The film ends with school children taking part in a football match. | |||

There are scenes of the town's industries - such as paper and brush-making - and the film looks at Glossop's local government. A new mayor is sworn in, and a procession passes through the town to mark the occassion. | |||
