A remembrance day parade through the streets of Stockport in 1930. The mayor and his party are seen entering the Town Hall. Large crowds watch the proceedings from the town square. Further scenes include councillor James Penny and other civic dignitaries leading the procession for the Mayor's Sunday. The ship passes the Volcano Stromboli and arrives at Messina, where the passengers disembark and are seen walking through the main streets of the city. A record of local events in Burnley from 1932 through to 1950. Features a 1932 Hospital Carnival, a Burnley v Luton football match from 1935 and the last tram to run in the town on 7th May 1935. Wartime footage includes the activities of the Burnley Home Guard and a 'Wings for Victory' parade along Colne Road in 1943. King George VI visits Burnley on 8th March 1945 before newspaper headlines announce the end of the war and there are shots of street parties, dancing outside the Town Hall, fires being lit, a thanksgiving service at St Peters Church and an outdoor concert and ceremony at Towneley Park. The film ends with footage from the 1950 General Election at which local Labour MP Wilfrid Burke retains his seat. Past and present servicemen mark the 19th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, on board the 'Duchess of Richmond' cruise ship. They pass the Straits of Gibraltar and on the 25th of April a memorial service is held on the ship's deck. Wreaths to various regiments are shown in close up; including one dedicated to the Turkish soldiers that also lost their lives. Further footage includes informal shots of the men drinking rum and beer from an assortment of metal containers.

The King delivers a speech before laying the foundation stone for the Town Hall extension and opening the Central Reference Library.
