BOAT DRILL

The lowering of lifeboats from a cruise liner then the sailors climbing into the lifeboats. Two sailors 'swinging the lead', a lead weight on the end of a rope to determine the depth of the sea. Mozambique town viewed from the sea then men and boys march behind a man carrying a rifle in Gold Madran near Aden. In Lahej in Yemen we see a young girl dancing to a drum and men bringing up water from a well using an elaborate systems of pulleys. The Suez canal being widened is followed by men in small boats selling rugs and views of the Canadian war memorial.

We see cows being driven through the town square and there is a visit to the historical buildings, there are Nazi flags hanging from these buildings.

Also includes scenes of children, including scouts, playing intercut with street scenes and ending with shots of a family on a beach (Port Erin, Isle of Man). Features footage of people having a meal to celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary (?) and children at a birthday party for Sylvia Higginson. Three generations of the Higginson family are seen in Harrogate. Derek's grandmother is seen relaxing and walking with her daughter(?). Derek is seen dragging a chair from a house. The family are seen relaxing in the garden of a house named High Lea. Continues with shots outside St Mary's Church Deane - guests and the wedding party are seen arriving for the wedding of James Fray and Cicely Rigby. People are seen leaving the church following the wedding. There is footage of Derek and Sylvia on a swing and a hammock. Closes with footage of a visit to a house in France (?), various family members are seen relaxing in a garden and picking grapes.

Scenes from a 1933 cycle race in Heswall are followed by views of Liverpool Airport in 1937 and of a snow-covered Bromborough. The 100 Mile Car Race on Southport Sands is seen, as well as Irvine MacDonald's 21st birthday party and people ice-skating in Heswall. A crowd gathers outside Liverpool Cathedral in 1938, and there are scenes from MacDonald family holidays in Cornwall and the Conwy Valley. Irvine playing in a rugby match in Hoylake concludes.
