The opening of the Goyt Valley Filtration Plant by the Mayor of Stockport, Alderman George Padmore JP - flowers are presented to the Lady Mayoress; the Mayor starts up the filtration plant - shots of moving pistons and gauges; the Mayor and Mayoress lead a walk over the reservoir footbridge and along the footpaths.

Members of the 72nd Boys' Brigade from Salford are seen participating in a procession through St Peters and Albert Squares in Manchester. Also scenes from a camping holiday in North Wales including a visit to Conway Castle and the beach, a boat trip, hill-walking, sports day at camp and lads playing football. [The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]

Longford Park School Sports Day, Stretford 1936. Includes shots of a netball game; cricket match and a school trip to Windermere. The second part of the film focuses on the school's coronation celebrations. Schoolboys are seen eating a meal in the school hall; leaving the playground at home time and crowding around a man selling ice creams.

Miscellaneous footage featuring a Whit Walk in Whitefield (?) - the 'queen' and her attendents are seen prior to footage of the Whit Walk. Banners, a band and various people on the walk are all featured. Continues with various shots of people in a garden, obviously aware of the camera. Cuts to a procession, many of the participants are in fancy dress (includes various national costumes), there are shots of a crowning ceremony. Following the title 'May 1937' is footage of celebrations marking the coronation of George . A large float mocked-up as a ship is seen, forming part of a procession. Closes with footage of Whitefield Civic Sunday in 1936, features a procession including police and a marching band.

Miscellaneous footage, including shots from Morecambe(?) - featuring the swimming baths, where crowds watch divers and children play. Also includes shots of a Punch and Judy show and blacked-up performers. Continues with footage from Heysham Head, a man is seen clambering across rocks and various animals are seen at a zoo. Also features shots of ships at a dock. Continues with brief shots of a group of young people and of a train. Cuts to a brief 'drama' filmed in Heaton Park in which two young men are seen fighting, until a 'policeman' intervenes, the drama concludes with a young man in drag 'kissing' one of the combatants. After a brief shot of a model boat, which is set alight, the film proceeds with footage of a Whit Walk in Whitefield (?). A crowning ceremony is seen and there are shots of a marching band and other participants. Continues with shots of young people out for a walk on desolate, snow covered countryside on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border. Closes with shots of a young man eating a banana and scenes in a garden, including a man mowing a lawn.

Film of John Potter, aged two, in a variety of locations. he is seen in the Potter family's garden at 'Alkrington' in Bowdon, playing with a pedal car, watering plants and with his parents. A Mickey's horse-drawn ice cream cart is seen prior to footage of John near a lake with his mother (?). He is seen pulling a toy train, eating an ice cream and looking at a statue. Continues with more footage of John playing with toys in the Potter's garden at 'Brideoak' in Bowdon. Also features a family visit to the Isle of Skye. Continues with footage from 'Brideoak in Bowdon, building work is taking place around the house - John plays around the building materials. Closes with John watering plants.

THE FIRST STEPS OF JOHN

Film of John Fleming as a toddler - in the street at home and on holiday with the family in Blackpool, Fleetwood and Morecambe - on the beach and at the fairground. There are shots of him playing in the street with other children, and also brief views of the cemetary at Heysham Head and of a visit to St Winifred's Well, Holywell, North Wales. The film ends with a short drama in which John plays a fireman.

Margaret Dodd is seen riding a pony during a family holiday to Anglesey. There are views of and from a biplane in flight, possibly in Southport. A swimming gala at a lido is followed by views of the Menai Bridge, South Stack Lighthouse and other Anglesey locations. Brief views of Conwy Castle and the Dodd family are seen outside the Red Lion pub and playing on the beach.

Wedding scenes with the bride rushing into the church then the bride and groom exit the church with confetti being thrown before getting into the wedding car. At another wedding the groom and best man, both in top hat and tails wait for the bride with family and friends. The bride and groom walk from the church to the wedding cars then arrive at the reception. Baby Maureen in her pram in the garden then learning to walk with her mum and grandmother. Maureen pushing a toy horse, playing with a doll and looking through a camera with her dad.

Footage of the Brickhill family at Harold Brickhills' parents home: 'Bewdley' in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Mrs Brickhill and Mr Brickhill are shown with the elder Mr Brickhill walking through their large garden, followed by shots of a mother and daughter looking into a fish pond. We see the elder Mrs Brickill weeding the bedding plants, then views of the house's exterior, cars on the driveway and the garden's plant life. There are brief shots of cats followed by the Brickhills enjoying a picnic by some trees and sunbathing on the lawn. The film ends with the Brickhills and friends inspecting the garden and the young girl playing on some stepping stones.

[PRESTWICH CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY]

Film showing the various processes involved in milk production. Cows are seen in a field near Clitheroe, they are herded to a milking shed and milked. The milk is seen being transferred into milk churns. Prestwich co-op dairy - a van is seen leaving - loaded with milk churns. The van arrives at the farm where its empty churns are unloaded and replaced with full ones. The film continues with footage from the dairy. On its arrival the van is unloaded and the milk is poured into large vats. Tests are seen being carried out in the dairy's laboratory. Various machines are seen functioning - bottles are filled and transported along a conveyor belt from which they are packed into crates. Milk floats leaving the dairy and delivering milk. Closes with a very brief shot of people on a hillside.
