Houses and streets bedecked with Union Jack bunting with street scenes of Clitheroe high street. In the grounds of Clitheroe castle, a large crowd of spectators watch the pageant which features historical costumes and dancing. The basting of a spit-roasted ox is followed by a Royal visit with a convoy of cars passing large crowds either side of the road. Veteran soldiers march down Clitheroe high street. Scenes from onboard a sailing ship on the river Mersey with views of Liverpool waterfront. Snowy scenes with large snow drifts so deep that it has buried the cars.

Footage of the Manchester Royal Infirmary; patients are wheeled outside from the hospital in their beds to get some fresh air, play cards, smoke and chat with their visitors. The bride and groom exit the church as confetti is thrown then depart in the wedding car. Scenes in 'The Firs', a maternity home in Leigh - the lying-in room, the nursery with a full complement of screaming infants, the incubator with children being cared for and weighed, and scenes of breast and bottle feeding. There are shots of the kitchen, with food being prepared by nurses, and the laundry, where nappies are being washed, and the film ends with fathers collecting their new babies and recovered wives.

Film describing the provision of maternity care in the Leigh area. There are scenes shot at 'The Firs', a maternity home run by Matron Storey, who is seen at her bureau and with a child. There are then shots of the various areas within Leigh, with shots of the maternity clinic building in each area, and its presiding midwife. A dramatised sequence shows a husband running from his house to the phone box to call out a midwife, who cycles in to help. There are then sequences of tests and safety procedures in the maternity home.
