'Oak Spelk Basket Maker' shows Charlie Airey weaving strips of oak into the frame of a swill basket, and 'Snuff Making' provides footage of tobacco leaves being ground in an old Kendal mill that is powered by a water wheel. 'A Welsh Spoon' shows a broth spoon being carved out with an axe and in 'Clog Making' John Casson uses specialist tools to fashion a man's clog. Finally, 'Haffe Net Fishing' sees Jim Braid catching salmon in the Lune Estuary with his wooden-framed net. The film begins with a series of brief unrelated shots: two men on a perilously-high ladder fixing a union jack, the porch of a house, horses and carriages at the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show of 1948, a small crowd looking at vintage cars, shoe making in a factory and a cobbled side street (possibly in Burnley town centre). There follows footage of a Burnley pageant played out by characters in historical costume, intercut with shots of the crowd at the Festival of Britain event that includes a guard of honour formed by sea cadets.
