Footage from the 1950/1 football season where Preston North End secured promotion to the First Division. Crowds are seen at Preston station, awaiting the return of the team from their 3-3 draw against Southampton, the game which secured their promotion. Supporters queue at Deepdale to watch PNE play Hull City, followed by views of the game itself. Preston won 1-0, but Tom Finney's winning goal is not seen. Presentation of the shield, and scenes from a 1952 Preston Guild festival match versus Red Star Belgrade are also shown.

The Gribbon family in Blackpool and their journey to Australia to start a new life. Family members pose for the camera inside and outside a pre-fabricated house and at Stanley Park. Family and friends are seen relaxing at home and at a party, plus shots of work colleagues and a couple outside the house on a motorcycle. The remainder of the reel is of the journey to Australia; driving to Blackpool station and departing by train, leaving Liverpool on the MV Dorsetshire on 28th September 1951, and the sea journey itself. Scenes from a Pole Bank Hall Garden Fete in 1951 and the opening of an extension, showing civic dignitaries making speeches to a seated audience of residents, staff and visitors, general views of the grounds and shots of a British Legion Band playing. Continues with children on funfair rides, dancers performing on an open-air stage and a choir singing. Second part of the reel features a Garden Fete in 1952, showing a British Legion Band arriving, close up shots of visitors and speeches/bouquet presentations. Ends with people enjoying refreshments, the gardens and shots of ducks on a pond.

People stroll around the grounds of Clitheroe Castle, while children play on the nearby swings and roundabouts. An agricultural show near Blackpool - the Tower is visible in the distance - offers show jumping, a parade of shire horses and a motorcycle display team. Carleton Gala sees a street procession with decorated motorised floats, dancing and a Rose Queen, while visitors enjoy the attractions of the carnival fairground. The reel ends with shots in a local churchyard in spring, with bees buzzing around the crocuses.

Film showing the testing of textile machines by TMM Research at Helmshore. The film opens with an aerial shot of the factory. The shop floor is seen with women at work. Men are seen conferring over notes. TMM carry out spinning tests. Three tests are seen, intercut with explanatory subtitles. Various machines, made by Platt's textile machinery makers are seen in action and being inspected. Yarn from bobbins is also tested. The film closes with an employee preparing a final report and a panning shot of a testing laboratory. At the church, the guests, bridesmaids, bride and father arrive, and make their way into church watched by a group of interested onlookers. After the wedding, confetti is thrown as the couple leave the church. At the reception, at the Wyre Bank Hotel, photos are taken outdoors, and there are brief indoor shots, including the cutting of the cake.

There is an interesting sequence where a glamorous model poses inside a giant bottle aboard a procession float, advertising Plastics Limited, Manchester.
