[FIRE DRILL AT VULCAN FOUNDRY]

A fire training exercise at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows. Men wheel out a fire pump from Fire Station 2 at the rear of the foundry, before unrolling hoses and spraying water over trackside sheds. The trainee firefighters then climb a ladder to take hoses to the roof of one of the main works buildings. Continues with boats sailing on a lake, beach scenes, people playing crazy golf and on a giant board game of draughts. Includes shots aboard a ferry, the Isle of Man Steamer departing the harbour and the two Fleetwood lighthouses. The climax of the football season has over 100,000 spectators at Wembley for the Bolton Wanderers v Blackpool F.A. Cup Final of 1953. After shots of the players getting ready we see the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrive and the Duke is introduced to the players. A thrilling match ends in a 4-3 victory for Blackpool and the Queen hands the trophy to the Blackpool captain. Stanley Matthews is seen in the changing room clutching his winners medal.

For the Whit weekend, the group head to Cemaes. They stay in a cottage and visit the beach, the children appear to still be wearing their school uniforms when they go paddling. For the August bank holiday weekend, they head to Morecambe. People can be seen leaving the house, they sit on a bench before walking along the promenade. The film ends with a visit to see the Guinness Clock in Morecambe.

Outside their cottage, John can be seen on his motorcycle while two women read the newspapers. Later, the group have a picnic together in a field. They feed the swans before taking a boat trip on the river. They visit 'The Red House', a large house with beautiful gardens. In the garden, a young child rides his tricycle. The film ends with shots of John wearing a military uniform while riding his motorcycle down the street.

DIRT DISPOSAL - TRIALS AT ARKWRIGHT COLLIERY

In October 1953 The Coal Board hold a trial for four manufacturers of dump trucks at Arkwright Colliery in North East Derbyshire. The manufacturers taking part are Foden, AEC, Euclid and Scammell. Each manufacturer puts their vehicles through the trial, they have to drive through a course that has been constructed with various hazards and complete a range of tasks. When the trials are complete other manufacturers are given the opportunity to demonstrate different types of industrial vehicles.
