[CYCLING AND CAMPING 1959]

Camping scenes and footage of people riding tricycles. Opens with shots of young men washing in a stream before general views of tents and activity on various campsites, including one at a racecourse. A woman cooks bacon on a stove at the back of a van whilst a baby is rocked in a pram outside. There is footage from what appears to be a tricycle time trial that passes through Pimhill in Shropshire, before children and adults are seen in a park with their tricycles. Concludes with views from a moving van and shots of people walking in wintry conditions near a waterfall. [Catalogued as part of 'Revitalising the Regions' - a Screen Heritage UK project, 2011]

Black and white film of boarded up and partly demolished terraced houses in Liverpool. A few scenes of Liverpool city centre including the docks and The City of Liverpool College of Technology. Finally, Major Lester CP School playground is shown with the children playing football and other games.

A selection of drama sketches by the boys in class 1 at the Major Lester CP School in Liverpool. Several short stories are shown which usually involves the boys dressing up as pirates and cowboys and indians, as well as playing various different sports. The first sketch shows a boy being sent off from a football match, with his team going on to win a trophy. The boy then steals the trophy from the headmasters office, and is eventually caught and reprimanded. The next story involves the boys day-dreaming about pirates, with the following sketch showing a boy cheating to win a boxing match and the prize money, only for his deception to be discovered in the end. The fourth story shows a jealous classmate stealing the pen from another boy, only to be chased and finally pushed in the lake with the pen being retrieved. Following that is a story of a child in the class who cannot win at any sporting competitions, but beats all of his fellow classmates in a pie-eating competition. Finally, the last story shows the boys playing at cowboys and indians.

Promotional/fund-raising film for the Liverpool Boys' Association, looking at the various activities and centres run by the charity - table tennis, dances (including an appearance by Frankie Vaughan), variety shows, campsite at Heswall. The Duke of Edinburgh visits the sports facilities at Fazakerley, and there are scenes at the Association's hostel for young men, Sydney House. Ends with an appeal for funds and/or volunteers to help run the clubs.

Friends and family gather at home for a 21st birthday party. The film cuts to shots of the seaside, a group of women can be seen sat down doing some drawing. Two men spend time in the park with their dogs. The film ends with scenes of a amateur football match at a local pitch.
 
 
 
[JEWISH LADS' BRIGADE]

Promotional film made for the North London Jewish Lads' Brigade in 1959. The first half of the film focuses on activities taking place at the club house, after school. The boys are seen doing physical exercises in the gym; playing table tennis and billiards; reading in the library and having dancing lessons. The second half of the film is shot on the Brigades Annual Camp. Companies from other areas, including a Manchester Battalion, are seen doing various washing up chores and drills. Includes interior shots of the Quarter Masters Store, meal times in the canteen tent and a boy having his knee bandaged in the camp hospital.

[ANNE THE EARLY YEARS]

Film documenting the early years of Anne. The film opens with Anne as a small baby in her pram and then we see her christening. There are views of the church and then Anne and her family arrive along with the guests. The family pose outside the church after the ceremony and then Anne and her family leave in a car. We see Anne with her parents giving her a drink from a cup. Then there are scenes of boys playing football in a park. We then see Anne as an older baby in her pram, and then playing on the living room floor in front of an open fire with a teddy and a clapping monkey toy while a room full of her relatives look on. We then see her being fed in her high chair by her mother, the table is set for dinner behind them. The extended family then sit down for a meal. They have plates of bacon and tomato, and little bowls of fruit salad. They distribute cups of tea. We next see Anne as a toddler playing in the park. We see her playing in a playground and with a boy who has a tricycle. She plays with another toddler and some dogs, and her extended family who are there too.
 
 
 
[WALKING IN NICKY NOOK AND BUDGIES]

The Cookson family and friends walking with their dogs in Nicky Nook in the forest of Bowland and Bleasedale in the Wyre district of Lancashire. A man swings on a rope then a picnic followed by a boy playing football with one of the dogs. Views of a coastal town with a man sea fishing from the beach and views of the promenade. A man checks the nesting boxes of his budgies and a pond filled with goldfish.
 
 
 
OUR HOLIDAY AND BONNIE SCOTLAND

A holiday at Pontins holiday camp in Morecambe, with shots of the building, the SS Berengaria, a young couple playing bowls, table tennis, crazy golf, swimming, and tennis. The film ends with underexposed scenes of dancing, football coaching, and match action featuring holiday camp patrons. In the following Bonnie Scotland film, we visit Gretna Green's blacksmiths, including a newly married couple exiting the blacksmiths. A young woman skims stones on a loch, and views of mountains, boats, coastal scenes, and Gretna Hall.
 
 
 
[ROSE QUEEN PARADE, THE LAKES AND TEIGNMOUTH]

The Cookson family walking their pet poodles then the Cookson girls playing with the dogs. A man sea fishes from a rocky beach possibly in North Wales. The Cookson family enjoy a picnic in the countryside followed by a Rose Queen parade with majorettes, marching bands and people in fancy dress. Views of Lake Windermere and Ambleside, walking the dogs with the dogs and children paddling in the lake. Views of Teignmouth harbour and a boat ride with a man holding up to the camera todays catch of fish followed by views of a cathedral and slightly underexposed views of boats coming into harbour.

The making of one edition of the Guardian, featuring and explaining the various jobs and processes - reporting, editing and sub-editing, the wire room in London transmitting to Manchester, compositing and printing, late news arriving and being inserted. The newspapers are distributed nationally and internationally by road and rail, are delivered to the door by lads on bicycles and read by people in bus queues. [The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]
 
 
 
[GARDEN PARTY AND PENSIONERS' PICNIC]

First part of the film focuses on events taking place at a Garden Party - stalls, tennis, crazy golf, talent contests and a ladies football match. Second half of the film concentrates on a group of elderly people visiting a ruined Abbey, memorial garden and boat rides on the river. This short comedy film stars Frank Randle, Tessie O'Shea and Dan Young and begins with a bedroom sketch as the family prepare to go on holiday. Next is a sketch with Frank and Dan trying to get the car to start before they all depart for a holiday in Blackpool. After a shot of the seafront at Balckpool taken from an aeroplane Frank does some funny business on the pier, rides a hobby horse bicycle, plays football and do the Hokey Cokey dance with all the other holidaymakers.

[BARROW ST JOHN'S AMBULANCE AND MOTORWAY SERVICES]

Shots of a procession of nurses and other St John's Ambulance staff in Barrow, followed by an inspection at a football ground. A motorway services on the M6 is featured, including footage of the cafeteria and car park. Further parades are seen at the opening of a new St John's Ambulance headquarters in Barrow accompanied by streetscenes in Barrow and Lancaster.
 
 
 
THE BURNLEY SCHOOL OF NURSING

Documentary about nurse training facilities in Burnley and District Hospitals. After shots of local attractions and scenery, the film follows the story of a trainee nurse from her application and interview for cadet training through to her work on the wards. She is seen in the classroom, tending to a variety of patients, assisting doctors and relaxing with colleagues. There is a prizegiving ceremony, and the successful nurses pose outside for photographs. Local leisure opportunities are illustrated (including shots of a parade for Burnley's Cup Final football team) before the film explores job prospects and further training. Trims compilation reel from 'The Burnley School of Nursing' begins with shots of nurses and staff inside Reedley Hall, Burnley followed by out-of-focus footage of a prizegiving ceremony and exterior shots of Reedley Hall, Hartley Hospital in Colne and the Marsden Hospital in Burnley. Trainees learn how to use a thermometer with the aid of a dummy in a hospital bed. After shots of a children's ward, the film cuts to scenes outside the town hall as crowds welcome Burnley FC following their appearance in the 1962 cup final. Couples dance inside the Mecca ballroom, before there are shots of Towneley Park and the gallery in the Hall. The film ends with shots of a committee meeting.
