[21ST BIRTHDAY AND OTHER SCENES]

A young woman cuts her birthday cake, and a girl takes photographs in the garden; a group of canal boats is moored on the canal for an event; shots from a football match with one team playing in drag. The reel ends with scenes in a boatyard where a narrow boat is being rebuilt, with new plates being welded onto the hull.
 
 
 
[RUSH CART AT SADDLEWORTH FESTIVAL 1971]

Cutting and collecting rushes from the banks of a reservoir and canal, being bundled and carried away. The cart, named Beryl, has a metal frame on which the bundles of rushes are placed to build a tower like structure. We see the various stages of construction, which takes over six months to complete until the cart is being pulled through the streets of Uppermill by a group of army volunteers. The cart, with a man sat on top of the rushes drinking, ends its journey at King George V playing fields with a brass band and dancing from the Manchester Morris Men.

The wedding guests arrive at the church where photographs are taken on the steps. The bridesmaids and flower girls arrive at the church followed by the bride. Church interiors with wedding guests walking down the aisle then the bride and groom pose for photographs with bridesmaids, family and friends. Includes a sequence of a woman, possibly filmmaker's wife, hanging out the washing in the back garden. Interior shots (very dark picture) show the Brown children on Christmas Day opening presents and watching television. Continues with more outdoor backgarden scenes with children being pushed on swings by adults and playing a bat and ball game. Ends with a family trip to a playground and children aboard a Noah's Ark attraction at a funfair. (possibly Southport's Pleasureland)

Richard's christening was held on the 5th of September 1971. Friends and family can be seen arriving at St Wilfrid's Church in Grappenhall. After the service, guests make their way to a restaurant for a meal. The film cuts to scenes of Steven riding a mini motorbike in a field. In December, the family celebrate Philip's birthday with a football themed birthday cake. Later, the family can be seen arriving at Hartford Hall in Northwich. Richard's grandmother takes him out for a walk in his pram. Back at home, Richard plays with his stuffed toys. In May 1972, the family go on holidays to Cemaes in Wales where they stay at the Woburn Hill guest house. On the beach, Steven and Philip play football with their grandmother. They go swimming in the sea followed by building sandcastles. The family celebrate Richard's 1st birthday with a mouse themed cake. Out in the garden, Richard plays with his toys and with his brothers.

A police car leads troupes of dancers at the beginning of the Barrow parade followed by brass bands, people in fancy dress, decorated floats with carnival queens and several kazoo bands. We next see the kazoo bands on the carnival showground marching in elaborate formations and the Carnival Queens sat on their thrones. Scenes from the TV show 'It's a Knockout' featuring competitors collecting buckets of water whilst wearing roller-skates, heading footballs past a goalkeeper on a trampoline and doing an obstacle course carrying a ladder.

Film to promote relocation to Central Lancashire. Two genteel ladies, a mother and her daughter, are seen discussing the horrors of the slum-ridden, rain drenched cultureless North. A man interjects and is heard dispelling the various myths about the North. The voice over is illustrated by footage of Preston, Chorley and Leyland as well as of Manchester, Liverpool and Southport. Housing , leisure, shopping, sport, education, entertainment and transport options are all featured. The two women are completely won over. The man tries to dissuade the mother from coming to the North, he is seen running along a railway line into the distance, his arms waving frantically, as the film finishes.

Promotional film for BEA/British Airways highlighting the many different natural, sporting and cultural attractions that the North West has to offer. Aerial footage of the region is interspersed with views of five different people from the North West enjoying different leisure activities. There are scenes of the region's industry, education and commerce as well as examples of some of Manchester's wide variety of night-life, such as restaurants, nightclubs and a Halle Orchestra concert at the Free Trade Hall. The next day, the five people are revealed to be BEA employees, and are seen at Manchester Airport preparing for a flight to Copenhagen.
