Comedy produced by Stockport Cine and Video Society, also featuring members of the Woodford Players. At a meeting of the Poynton Paranormal Society, the Chairman discovers that several members have vanished into thin air after reading a book of spells. The police come round to question him, but the Inspector also disappears after reading the book. Strange things begin to happen, with society members appearing and disappearing again in unusual places. A medium is called in to assist, but this also goes wrong, and she is accidentally transformed into a cuddly toy. The Chairman eventually restores normality, only to be arrested by the Police Inspector - however, this time the Chairman uses the book to make himself disappear - to Australia.

Introduced by Tony Warren, the creator of Coronation Street, in the Gay Village in Manchester, the film follows the events of this major gay and lesbian festival and their response to HIV. The film covers performances, the procession along Princess Street past Manchester Town Hall and interviews visitors, gay and straight. At the end a large crowd commemorates those who have died through a silent candlelit vigil. [Catalogued as part of 'Revitalising the Regions' a Screen Heritage UK project, 2011]

The film is divided into chapters by intertitles, which showcase its key themes: colonial slavery; post war immigration; racial assaults; police harassment and hope for the future. [MANCHESTER GRAMMAR SCHOOL CHARITY EVENTS]

Scenes from various events at Manchester Grammar School to raise money for charity. The film opens with scenes from a 'bazaar' in the main hall. The students mill about and chat around trestle tables which are mostly empty, though some boys play card tricks at one of the tables. We then see some of the boys abseiling down the side of the building while the other students cheer them on and heckle them. At the final event students with long hair have their heads shaved while the other students have fun heckling them, but also cheer them on. We see a teacher collecting money in a bucket.
 
 
 
THE PIONEER LINE

An exhaustive and informative film on the experimental electric train line that linked Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. After a history of the various stages of the construction of the line we see the archive film of the Rev. Robert Jackson [see NWFA7959]. This film takes us on a journey from Morecambe to Lancaster, back to Morecambe then onto Heysham before returning to Morecambe with views taken from the cab of the train. It also includes shots of the trains filmed from the sidings and bridges as well as a glimpse of the drivers. In 1996, thirty years after the line was closed, Robert Jackson and former train driver and engineer Ernie Whitehouse retrace the line. Using the archive and contemporary films side by side we see the the many changes that have happened to the area since closure. The film ends with an interview with Ernie Whitehead and the Rev. Robert Jackson who shows us the railway artefacts he has collected.

Shots of bomb damage after the IRA's attack on Manchester in June 1996. There are shots of the Corn Exchange, buildings on Corporation Street and near the cathedral. There are views of the newly completed Bridgewater Hall, the Free Trade Hall, the inflatable Santa attached to the Town Hall, and the ice-skating rink set up in Albert Square. There are also shots of Manchester Airport and the now-demolished Davenport Theatre in Stockport.
