The film ends with the group seated at tables, waving and saying cheerio as the camera quickly pans round the room and music plays.

Brickhill family holiday to St Annes in August 1945 - a young man in Naval uniform joins the children and adults jumping from the roof of a hut onto the beach below. After a brief shot of one of the children learning to swim we see the family sunbathing, flying a kite and performing acrobatics, The children are seen building a large sandcastle and then at the Blackpool Lido as a group walking towards the camera. The film opens on a close up of the The Daily Telegraph's VE Day front page followed by a still of Winston Churchill. The film cuts to Smokey the cat being held by Mrs. Hughes outside the family home. Bunting and flags decorate the Ship Inn pub. The family later attend a bonfire, children can be seen playing with fireworks. In the next scene, a mock "Hitler" can be seen in a coffin with a sign that reads 'He's Had It'. Back at home, Mrs. Hughes enjoys breakfast in bed and shows the camera a Christmas card. Out on the street, children can be seen playing hopscotch together. The family go for a walk along the canal towpath. The film ends with scenes of a group of young people sat on a bench and going for a walk in the woods.
 
 
 
HOME SWEET HOME

Home Sweet Home is a 1945 British musical comedy film starring Frank Randle, Nicolette Roeg (sister of director Nic Roeg) and Tony Pendrell. Set in the fictitious town of Redvale, the film is largely a vehicle for slapstick routines by Randle. The plot is the spirited orphan Jacqueline Chantry (Nicolette Roeg) is the chauffeuse to wealthy colonel Wright (H.F. Maltby) and his family. Son Eric Wright (Tony Pendrell) and Jacqueline fall in love and plan to marry, but the class conscious colonel's wife (Hilda Bayley) refuses to give her blessing. Saddened, Jacqueline packs her bags and leaves; eventually becoming a nightclub singer. Eric chases after her, but she's already been found by Frank (Frank Randle), a likeable chap who discovers that Jacqueline is in reality a wealthy heiress.

Footage of the Brickhill family at the elder Brickhills home, Bewdley in Alderly Edge, as well as their home in Cheshire, and scenes of Pownall School Sports Day, 1945. The film begins with scenes of young David and his grandparents in their garden with their pet Jack Russell. This is followed by brief shots of goat kids in a stall on a farm then David racing his mother in the garden and getting a piggyback ride from his father. At Pownall School we see various races - including an obstacle and three-legged - then the awarding of the Sports Day prizes and trophies. More Sports day events are shown - including the sack race and the fathers tug-o-war - intercut with shots of David playing in the garden with a bulldog puppy.

Film of activities at Bolton School in 1945-46. Features footage of staff and pupils in assemblies, staff meetings, lessons and exams as well as undertaking a wide variety of different activities. The schools scout troop is seen on a camping trip to Borrowdale - they play games and prepare and eat a meal. The Agricultural Camp at Parbold is featured - pupils harvest potatoes and strawberries. The Pig Club are seen feeding the school's pigs. Pupils are seen engaged in a variety of sports: football; cricket; high jump; gymnastics and athletics. The Aeromodelling and Chess Club members are seen engaged in their hobbies. There is footage of the preparation for and performance of Shakespeare's Richard II and the school orchestra is seen performing in the school hall. Closes with shots of speech day, in which Lieutenant General Brian Horrocks presents a succession of certificates and trophies.
 
 
 
CRITICAL HARVEST

Film opens with footage of the victims of famine throughout the world. It then goes on to show fields ready for harvest and people queueing for food in Britain. The changes in land use to bring in more land for food production are illustrated, along with the increase in mechanisation. Much emphasis is placed on the need for skilled labour in farming and the assistance given by semi and unskilled labour given by volunteers. Shows food at a market place in Manchester and ends with a church service giving thanks for the harvest.

THE SLATE QUARRY

The film follows the process of producing slate roofing tiles. After a map of the location is shown (Burlington Quarry near Kirby-in-Furness), there are views of the South Cumbrian hills before the film moves in to the quarry itself. Workers drill and break up the rock and slabs are removed and transported in trucks to the cutting shed. Slates are split and dressed, waste is deposited and the finished slates are taken away from the quarry to be weighed and loaded on to rail wagons to continue their journey. The film ends with shots of workers using the finished slate to tile the roof of a new house. Chester musical festival is seen and a few clips from a trip to London. The King and Queen also make a visit the home district where they are clearly seen on the walk around.
