In a school hall, children and their parents watch the crowning of the Rose Queen. The Queen then joins a procession through the town streets to the field where the ceremonial events continue.

Sports events and activities at Lymm Grammar school. Includes shots of a girls v boys hockey match; a cross country run; a school sports day and a game of tennis. Also features a group of school leavers, first year pupils and prefects standing infront of the school building; scenes from a school play and an excursion to Derbyshire. Concludes with landscape scenes of Switzerland and Italy shot during a school trip abroad. Includes footage of the journey, architecture and historical sites visited during the pupils stay.
 
 
 
[BRIGADE CAMP SCENES]

The Manchester Diocesan Lads Brigade are seen leaving Manchester by coach, waving. Then follows scenes at camp: marching; an outdoor church service or ceremony with organ accompaniment. They are then seen at the beach: a brigade officer digs in the sand with a woman and three little girls; the boys relax and drink pop. Back at camp an inspection takes place, there is a game of cricket (some in slow motion) and scenes of diving (also played backwards for an amusing effect). The brigade is then seen marching through a park and an inspection takes place, lots of close ups of various people, and the boys are reunited with (or visited by) their families. Location is possibly Fylde coast.
 
 
 
[LADS AND GIRLS BRIGADE MARCHES IN MANCHESTER]

The marches appear to take place in the area around Manchester Cathedral, possibly on different days. We first see the Girls Brigade: girls of all ages marching, some playing instruments. We then switch to the boys marching. The mayor arrives by car and ascends a podium with other officials, to watch the boys pass by. The scene then shifts to Belle Vue; some preparatory work is seen at the stadium before the boys and girls march in. A ceremony then takes place on the podium with the mayor and his wife and other church and brigade dignitaries. The mayor is seen meeting various persons and there are some close up shots.
 
 
 
[THE CHRISTENING OF JANE RENDELL 1952]

Members of the Rendell, Hill and Welch families are seen outside the Congregational Church in Bowdon for the christening of Jane Rendell. The rest of the film features the first couple of years of Jane Rendell's life - in the garden at home in Hale, and on family holidays in Llandudno, Rhos-on-Sea and Criccieth.

Members of the Grime family are seen in the garden at home, playing with the children. The victorious Blackpool Football team are seen returning with the FA Cup in 1953, and there are scenes on a farm, with Jane and Geoffrey feeding a lamb and with some cows. John Grime playing golf at Hexham Golf Club is followed by footage of the family at Hadrian's Wall and on the beach at Rossall. Geoffrey is seen getting swimming lessons at Norbreck Hydro, there are views from the arena at the Royal Agricultural Society Show and the family are seen playing in a river and on another farm near Esprick.

Activities at Hope Congregational Church's mental health unit - occupational therapy such as weaving, making lamp shades and sewing leather satchels; gardening; laundry; music lesson and games. The Salford Central Mission's Boys' Brigade are seen on camp - visits to Tattershall Castle and Church, an open-air swimming pool and miniature golf course, and scenes on site including football, cricket and marching band practice. A Rose Queen procession in Hatherlow near Stockport, a Sunday School ramble and members of the Hodkinson family at home and on holiday. After opening shots of Chatsworth House and grounds, family members are seen in the garden laying turf and a biplane is shown landing on Southport beach. Ramblers set off for the hills before there is footage of a Scholars' Walk and Rose Queen procession through the streets of Hatherlow. Holiday scenes include visits to Anglesey, Lake Windermere and Scarborough. Concludes with Mr Hodkinson sweeping his chimney. The Browne family in the garden. The family play cricket and tennis. The children play and the adults sit in deckchairs and drink tea. A dog plays with a ball and a child rides a tricycle and plays on a rocking horse. A man tends to the garden and some of the adults lark about and dance for the camera. There are brief shots of birds on the snow covered lawn, of children befriending ponies, of Coronations decorations in Bootle and of a demolition wrecking ball at work in the street.
 
 
 
[BEACH SCENES, A WEDDING & BIRTHDAY PARTY]

Underexposed shots of the Sagar family having a picnic then Richard playing in the sand and Elizabeth in the sea. Views of a hotel and its grounds followed by more beach scenes with Elizabeth learning to swim. The Sagar children playing on the slide and swings in a playground in Purbeck in Dorset then in the sea with Mr Sagar. After pony riding we have a wedding party being photographed then the Sagars with their dogs in the countryside. The film ends with children sat around a table at a birthday party and Richard and Elizabeth in the garden climbing on the swings with the help of their father.

A compilation of the various vehicles manufactured by Foden. There are shots of articulated tankers made for Cadburys and Cheshire Sterilised Milk. We see the Earle's Cement Works fleet of wagons hard at work in various locations. There are scenes of the Bartholomew Ready Mixed Concrete wagon in action. We see the Manchester and District Farms Ltd fleet of trucks. There are scenes of the Warrington Corporation buses out and about picking up passengers. Finally there is a shot of a J.M. Horrocks & Sons Ltd Haulage Contractors truck.
 
 
 
[FUN IN THE GARDEN: BIRTHDAY PARTY]

The Wilson children play in the garden. They are all naked and run around spraying each other with a hose pipe, and they have fun filling pots and pans and a big tub with water which they splash around in. Their mother looks on from her deckchair. We later see a children's birthday party taking place in the same garden. A large group of children play games and then they sit down at a table in the garden laden with party food and a birthday cake.
 
 
 
[BOLLINGTON METHODIST CHURCH ACTIVITIES]

Scenes from social activities organised by Bollington Methodist Church. We see scenes from the 'High Street Rose Queen and Garden Fete, 19th June 1954'. We see the procession and the crowning of the new Rose Queen. There are also scenes from the MAYC (the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs) Carnival which took place on 23rd August 1952. We see scenes from the procession, and then from the carnival field. The opener, Mr. J.B. Rhodes is introduced by Bernard Barry. Mr. Rhodes then goes on to judge the carnival fancy dress costumes along with Mrs Trevor Hill from the BBC. Violet Carson is there as a guest, she speaks to the crowd. We see the Youth Council discussing the new programmes and then there are scenes from a MAYC trip to London. They take a sightseeing boat trip on the Thames, and there are some street scenes. We then see them departing on the train for home, a girl from the group waves with her head out of the window.
 
 
 
[GEOFFREY GRIME ON HORSEBACK]

Geoffrey and Jane Grime are seen in school uniform outside the family home in Thornton-Cleveleys. Scenes of Geoffrey Grime jumping fences on horseback are followed by views of a bride outside her home, and underexposed scenes at the church before and after the ceremony.
