Local Coronation celebrations include a crowd of people listening to a brass band performance in the outdoor theatre in Queen’s Park, Heywood, and later, the United Choirs Concert. In Manchester city centre, Albert Square, Piccadilly Gardens and surrounding streets are festooned with decorations; shops, including Kendals, are also decorated. Heywood’s shops have a variety of Coronation displays in their windows, and at Stanley Mill, workers dress up and celebrate. | |||

Other sights of interest are the contestants for Mr Superman, one of whom puts on a weightlifting display at the open-air pool, and the astrologer Professor Aubrey Winston, making predictions on the seafront. | |||

A record of the Coronation Review of the fleet, when more than 300 ships gathered in the Solent for the royal review. From destroyers to aircraft carriers, frigates to submarines, the film displays the range of British naval capability of the time. The royal party, comprising the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, board the HMS Surprise, which is acting as the royal yacht for the event. There are also foreign ships, including the USS ‘Baltimore’, the Soviet cruiser ‘Sverdlov’, and the Italian training ship ‘Amerigo Vespucci’. There is a fly-past by the Fleet Air Arm, and the reel ends with the assembled fleet illuminated at night, when fireworks are set off as a finale to the review. | |||

On July 23rd 1953, the students of Altrincham Grammar school can be seen boarding the coach and departing for their camping trip. On the way, they stop off at Tewkesbury and visit the abbey. Once they arrive at the campsite in Ladram Bay in Devon, they unload the bus and get settled. They visit the beach, go swimming in the sea before walking over Peak Hill to Sidmouth. Some of the boys walk along the promenade before heading back to the campsite where they play games. The next morning we see the children washing their clothes and preparing for the tent inspection. The boys all help out with the washing up of cups and plates. | |||
