A gymnastic display by the boys of Bolton School as part of an open day followed by a policeman directing traffic into the school and pupils cooking over fire in the school grounds. Scenes from a boys cricket match then a camping holiday in Corsica where the boys explore ruins and camp on the beach. Views from a boat are followed by the boys cooking at the campsite then reading newspapers and playing table soccer at a local cafe. The boys exploring ancient Roman ruins and the Temple of Caeser in Rome is followed by them sleeping in their sleeping bags and cooking breakfast

The film opens on scenes from a procession through Salford, we see the Rose Queens and Salford Central Mission Church Sunday school take part. In the next scene, the Girl Guides visit a park and the playground. Inside the Salford Central Mission Church, we see the crowning of the new Rose Queen. After the ceremony, some of the children take part in a folk dancing performance.

Scenes from the Girl Guides' camping trip, the children and leaders have a water fight. The Girl Guides cook food and everyone sits on the grass for their meals. The film briefly cuts to shots of the Rose Queen procession. Back at the campsite, some children go on donkey rides while others play football.

A compilation of scenes. Members of the Brice family play in the garden, they ride bikes, play in a tub of water and in make shift tents. There are scenes from John Brice's 4th birthday party, family and friends are seated round a table loaded with party food. There is a family visit to the zoo and a trip to Paris where we see views of the city and a trip to the Eiffel Tower. We also see a trip to a model village and a fairground where the family have fun on merry-go-rounds and the helter-skelter. There follow an assortment of scenes. We see the family on the beach, swinging on ropes in a hay barn, riding on a sledge and adding the finishing touches to a snowman in the garden.

Film about the Manchester Evening News, which had recently located to a new building on Deansgate. The film highlights Manchester's international and historical importance - featuring shots of the John Rylands Library, Trafford Park, the Manchester Ship Canal, Manchester Airport, Jodrell Bank and Manchester University. Manchester is shown to be a vibrant city, a variety of shops are seen as is a nightclub. Joe Mercer, manager of Manchester City, talks about football in the city and there is footage of Manchester United versus Chelsea. The content, production and distribution of The Evening News is featured - an editorial meeting (with Brian Redhead), the newsroom and the printroom are seen, as are van drivers delivering the paper. People are seen reading the paper on buses and in the street. A family are seen reading the paper in their home.

Sybil and Leslie Bletcher are seen on holiday at the CHA's [Coutryside Holidays Association] Fowey Hall Hotel in Cornwall - they are seen on boat trips and on walks with other members in the surrounding area. The Bletchers are seen holidaying at the Coran Court Hotel in Lyme Regis with other members of the Altrincham branch of the CHA. They are seen walking along the coast, on a trip to the zoo and to a cathedral, on another walk and on the coach home.
 
 
 
A WELSH SPOON MADE AT WELSH FOLK MUSEUM

The carving of a ten-inch welsh broth spoon at the Welsh Folk Museum in Cardiff. A carver is pictured using his skill with a hand axe to shape the spoon from a block of sycamore wood. He is then shown hollowing out the bowl of the spoon with a knife, and using a wooden spokeshave to shape and smooth the handle. The carver is seen trimming the spoon and displaying the finished product to the camera. OLD ENGLISH CRAFTS; OAK SPELK BASKET MAKING; C AIREY CRAFTSMAN

80-year-old Charlie Airey demonstrates the dying craft of making an oak spelk basket at his backyard workshop in Storth, Westmoreland. Mr Airey is seen clearing and chopping wood in a coppice before the film cuts to his home workshop. Using a variety of traditional tools and skills honed through 50 years of experience, he splits pieces of softened oak into strips, creates a basket rim from a piece of hazel, and weaves the strips together to make an oak spelk basket. HOME AND AWAY

Fictional comic story about a layabout husband (the narrator) and his wife who live in a slum. She aspires to live a better life in a bigger house. His attempts to persuade banks and building societies to lend him money end in failure so he turns to acts of crime to solve his problem, culminating in a bank robbery with his wife acting as an accomplice. However, as they are about to set off to start their new life the suitcase containing the stolen money is pinched. Dejected, they return to their terraced home only to discover it has been demolished. [Catalogued as part of 'Revitalising the Regions' - a Screen Heritage UK project, 2011]
 
 
 
[QE2 CRUISE TO USA]

Passengers embark on the QE2 from Southampton to New York and are seen taking part in a lifeboat drill. There are views of rough seas from the front of the ship. The model, Twiggy, and dancer, Tommy Tune, are seen practising their tap dance routine on the deck. In New York, the Chrysler Building is seen. Then there are scenes from Washington DC including The White House, the Washington Monument, Arlington National Cemetery with the Eternal Flame and the graves of John F. Kennedy and Patrick Bouvier Kennedy. Back in New York they visit Chinatown and we see the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge and they sail under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. There are also scenes at the Rockerfeller Plaza, views of the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center and Times Square at night. Back on board passengers play deck games followed by a children's entertainer being thrown into the ship's pool.

Summer scenes in the garden follow, with children playing in an inflatable paddling pool. We see Emmie with Nelson the dog. There are brief cricket match scenes followed by David and Lily who are with Sara who is playing on a slide. We see Dick and Jean sitting on a canal bridge and then views of Styperston from Sugar Lane.
