[ST. ANDREW'S PARISH CHURCH CLEVELEYS 1972]

In St Andrews Church hall in Cleveleys, churchgoers say goodbye to Mr. Hodson after his farewell service. In the next scene we see a sponsored walk taking place to raise money for Christian Aid Week. The chairman of the councillor Mrs. Cass can be seen helping out. Members of the youth club hold a fund-raising car wash. This year the Mothers Union deanery festival was held in St Paul's Church North Shore. It was a very windy day and the women struggled to carry the banners in the wind. In the next scene, members of the Ladies Guild wait for the coach which will take them to North Wales for their annual day trip. On Civic Sunday, the church service was attended by Chairman of the Council - Councillor Hibbert and his wife. In June, the Thornton-Cleveleys Gala was held which included the St Andrews Church Sunday School Queen. In separate scenes we see the procession of witnesses - where all the Churches of Thornton-Cleveleys join together and take part in the procession. Next we see scenes from the wedding of Wendy Claridge to Ian Pritchard. Friends and family look on as the happy couple have photographs taken outside St Andrews church. In the next scene we see churchgoers arriving at the church for a special service to commemorate the Battle of Britain. After the service a procession is held, led by the band followed by members of uniformed organisations such as scouts and girl guides. The film ends with shots of the Concorde flying over Blackpool.

Scenes for the Burnage High School Educational Cruise 1972. We see a group of school boys getting on an aeroplane, and then there are views from the window as the plane takes off. We then see the boys getting off the plane in Venice, followed by views of the cruise ship in port. There are scenes of the boys on deck throughout the film. They swim in a pool, play games and there is a church service too. There are views of the passing scenery. The boys visit Athens, Crete, Malta, Tangier and Lisbon and we see them out and about enjoying the sights. The film ends with the boys getting off the coach back in Manchester.

[BOROUGH OF BACUP 90TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS 1972 - EXHIBITION, PROCESSION, GAMES]

To celebrate Bacup's 90th anniversary, an exhibition is held to display the history of Bacup including the companies that have operated there. People can be seen looking around the different stalls and photographs on show. A procession led by a brass band makes its way down the street, followed by girl guides, brownies, boy scouts and clergymen. Later some games are held including some men balancing buckets of water on bicycles. Outside a marquee, people gather with their pets including dogs, cats, rabbits and ponies.

In the next scene, people attend an exhibition to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Bacup. Speeches are given followed by a fancy dress competition for the children. Later a group of morris dancers perform in the town square. A procession makes its way through the streets, a brass band, the carnival queen and various floats can be seen taking part.

A procession makes its way through the streets, a brass band, the carnival queen and various floats can be seen taking part. In the next scene we see shots of Stubbylee Hall and surrounding garden. Some men play bowls on the bowling green. The anniversary celebrations continue at the park where speeches are given and prizes are handed out for the best fancy dress. Later, parents and children gather to watch a Punch and Judy show. Some of the men take part in the tug of war. The film ends with a firework display.

Views of the Preston skyline then exteriors of St. Ignatius Church and Harris museum and library. Civic dignitaries meet at the Old Corn Exchange on the first day of the Guild week. A brass band lead the procession for Mayor's Sunday followed by civic dignitaries and clergymen. At the park is an industrial exhibition with displays from the RAF including a fly past by Concorde and a parachute display team. St. Ignatius churchgoers preparing the floats for the Catholic Guild procession then the group congregate in a side street before the start of the march. The Catholic procession begins led by mounted police with floats, banners, clergymen, children and religious icons. Various funfair rides including a big wheel and stalls followed by a torchlight procession with illuminated floats.
 
 
 
GUILD HIGHLIGHTS 1992

At the Guild showground a brass band plays and the police prepare for a dog demonstration as part of the International Police Tattoo. A helicopter lands and people admire the vintage cars and fire engines. Children on the ocean youth club's boat, 'The Greater Manchester Challenge' at the boat regatta. The Catholic Guild procession with floats, clergymen, brass bands, religious banners and icons. At the Guild showground there is a funfair with various rides including a big wheel and a ghost train as well as children's face painting. On a rainy day we have another procession with floats from local industry and services, members of the local communities and Frank Sidebottom waving to the crowds that line the route.

Views of the Preston skyline then in the shopping arcade square a procession with dancing majorettes, country dancing and a town crier. A street procession with marching policemen and women, nurses, civic dignitaries, floats and soldiers. The Black Knights parachute display team are followed by scenes from the Catholic Guild procession with clergymen, children, banners and floats. The Mayor and civic dignitaries are seen exiting a church and then a torch lit procession with illuminated floats and fireworks.
