Preparations for Prince Charles' visit to the Kelloggs Company, Stretford on 22 May 1974 celebrating its 50th anniversary this year are seen. On arrival, the Prince is introduced to Mr J. A. Adams the chairman and managing director and to the two assistant managing directors, Mr J.Rothwell and Mr K. Brenton. He also met various members of the production and manufacturing team on his tour around Kelloggs, leading to refreshments. Following his departure by helicopter which was taking him to Reading, Berkshire, there are scenes of the dismantling of the marquee, as well as general exterior views of the buildings.

This film begins with exteriors of the Merseyside Community Relations Council building then interiors with carnival banners being painted as well as screen printing posters advertising the story cart. Next we see the carnival parade with adults and children, many in fancy dress, marching along the street with decorated floats and cars. At the carnival children play games, bounce on the inflatables and have their faces painted. After grossly underexposed traditional Indian folk dancing we follow the story cart to various Liverpool streets where the children paint, have stories read to them and enjoy street theatre performances.

A HYDRAULIC INVESTIGATION OF THE RIVER LUNE

This film records how the civil engineering department of Salford University investigated the flow of the river Lune in regard to fish migration and river behaviour such as flooding. We see surveyors at work using photo theodolites to map the course of the river past the islands or shards at Skerton. It includes aerial footage of the river and scenes in the universities laboratories where hydraulic models are built and the rivers flow is tested. The film ends with a concluding report by Prof. EM Wilson.

Scenes from a royal visit by the Duke of Edingburgh, Prince Philip to Salford University. We see his arrival by Royal motorcade followed by a walking tour of the university campus stopping and entering different buildings. The Prince walks through the campus grounds and is followed by an increasingly large group of local children and a dog. Policemen, students and local people stand and watch before a helicopter arrives and the Duke departs in the co-pilot's seat.
 
 
 
[UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD - CHANCELLOR'S VISIT]

The film starts with shots of a model of Salford University campus site then the Duke of Edingburgh does a walking tour of the University. The Prince visits the Peel building as well as the science, computing and physical education laboratories. Views of Peel Park and the exteriors of various university buildings are followed by a brief history of the 'Royal College' and the foundation of the University. After brief shots of a graduation ceremony Prince Philip leaves the campus onboard a helicopter.

The next class is Male Hairdressing with magic hair restorer and a short sighted hairdresser armed with a cut throat razor. Carnival goers are greeted by a clown then the sea scout band march in formation on the showground. A motorcycle display team do stunt riding and jumps followed by a parachute team landing in the showground. A highland piped band march past then a female trapeze artist does her act high above the crowds. A trampoline demonstration is followed by a small group of soldiers doing a battle simulation. The film ends with more parachutists landing in the showground.

It's a Knockout style games with a woman getting dressed in a barrel then being carried over an obstacle course. A children's sports day with wheelbarrow, three legged, egg and spoon and sack races followed by a tug-of-war. The Sealed Knot enactment of the Battle of Carnforth between the Cavaliers and Roundheads watched by crowds of spectators. More scenes from an It's a Knockout with teams competing on obstacle courses and the blue team being awarded medals and trophy.
