Activities of the 3rd Barrow in Furness (Grammar School) Scout Troop. Youth hostelling in the Lake District at October half term and at New Year. The 1st year scouts spend a weekend at Great Tower, practising map reading, campfire building and putting up tents. The Spring Bank Holiday camp is at White Moss Common - the boys enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the lake. The longest trip is summer camp on the Isle of Arran, where the scouts experience record breaking temperatures. They swim in the sea, and walk up a number of mountains. A film showing the work done by the Conservation Corps as part of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. We see the volunteers working on a variety of different projects in the Beacon Fell area. They dig out stones to be used in a drystone wall around the ruins of a building. They repair footpaths and the roof of a folly. They also clear out a muddy pool and fix a wooden walkway through some wetland before digging a trench. There are lots of shots of the local scenery, including Roddlesworth Nature Trail. | |||

CLEVELEYS PARISH CHURCH ST. ANDREW'S THE HIGHLIGHTS OF 1974-75 | |||

The bride and groom (Judith and Richard) stand outside St Andrews Parish Church in Cleveleys and have photographs taken. In December 1974 the Lord Bishop of Lancaster came to dedicate the Whiteside memorial window in St Andrews Church. Crowds of people arrive at the church for the special service. This was the last visit of the Lord bishop before his retirement at the end of the year. He agrees to have his photograph taken with Vicar Morgan for the church records. Members of the congregation attend the consecration of the new Bishop of Lancaster Dennis Page. The service took place at Blackburn Cathedral on March 1st 1975. Back at St Andrews Parish Church, members of youth organisations and children of the Sunday school attend the Mothering Sunday service with their mothers. A christening also takes place at the church that day. In the next scene we see young members of the church join the clergy for breakfast after the Easter communion service. In May, members of the Ladies Guild can be seen waiting for the coach to arrive for their day trip to Harrowgate and Harewood House. The film ends with members of the Venture scouts washing cars to raise money for charity. | |||
