This film shows the Brickhill family at their home in Cheshire in May and September 1939 (a week into the beginning of WWII). Scenes of Mary Brickhill teaching baby David Brickhill to walk at the front of the house. We then see him with father Harold Brickhill and grandparents as he plays with a toy train; this is followed by scenes of children playing in sand in the back garden.

Following the service, they are seen leaving the church and heading back through the streets. No servicemen or police are filmed at the 1940 procession due to "war restrictions." Also includes brief scenes of children playing in a park, and exterior and interior views of the new County Branch Library.

The film features a pair of twins throughout; as babies dressed for christening and then later as toddlers. Footage of the Brickhills at the elder Brickhills' home: Bewdley, Alderley Edge and on holiday in Prestatyn, 1940. The film begins with brief scenes of the the Brickhills (Mr and Mrs, young David and grandparents) in the garden; we see a kitten and a croquet game played on the lawn. Then we see the family on holiday at the beach; the children climb the sand dunes then David pushes a train stroller in the garden. There are also shots of kitchen interiors and David riding a tricycle in the garden. The film ends with the Brickhills sat in front of some beach huts, enjoying pony rides on the beach and David running around the garden.

There is also footage of a family game of cricket in a park, children racing and scenes from Stamford Park, Ashton-under-Lyne, including boats and a bowling green.
