Mr J Sinclair Kerr of Lancashire Steel Corporation's Irlam Works is seen with the managers of the various different departments on site. Includes footage of the construction of No 5 Blast Furnace, cutting metal in the scrap yard, feeding the furnace and inspecting finished girders and steel wire. There are views of Dr Binnie in the laboratory and the film ends with extended scenes in the new costing department, with women working at typewriters and adding machines.

The Gee boys go fishing as well as throwing stones and paddling on a beach. In the garden the adults sit and read and knit while the children play. The children throw a ball against the wall while the adults sit in deck chairs and look on. More family members arrive and they prepare to go for a swim in the sea. The entire family play on the sand on in the sea and the children build sandcastles. The family stop off at the countryside during a drive, the children pose for a photograph. The children go down to the shore to skip stones. The children change from their swimwear by the car in a beachside car park. The film ends with more sunbathing and playing on the sand and in the sea.

Members of the Preston family are seen walking along the prom at Southport and Brighton. Includes various shipping scenes along the River Mersey and tram footage at the Pier Head. They are also seen taking a trip along the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent. Further scenes include a building decorated with coronation memorabilia; Albert Codman's Punch and Judy Show and various shots of buses and coaches in Harrogate.
 
 
 
[DISLEY SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS]

Film of a procession through the crowd lined streets of Disley in Cheshire. Includes scenes of celebrations and events marking the Silver Jubilee. Large crowds stand in the town square[?] which is festooned with buntings and flags. Also features footage of some children participating in a running race. A group of spectators are seen standing in the middle of a field watching the activities in the rain. Concludes with shots of Southampton Dock taken from onboard a ship and scenes of a group of young men larking about on a beach; wearing bathing trunks.
 
 
 
HOLIDAYS OF THE HANNA FAMILY 1938

Collection of family films begins with children and adults poking up their heads from behind a dry stone wall. Scenes from a holiday in Fleetwood, including donkey rides, are followed by shots of Blackpool seafront, a trip on the tower lift and rides at the Pleasure Beach. Three generations of Hannas are pictured playing in a garden. In a terraced street in Burnley, a young Robert Hanna dresses up as a policemen and there is a staged traffic accident. The Hanna children explore Heysham beach using a treasure map and try out swingboats and slides at a fairground. The film ends with footage of a military procession. [RADCLIFFE AND PRESTWICH CHARTER NEWSREELS]

Newsreel footage of two Charter days, both attended by Lord Derby. On a wet September day in 1935, a procession through Radcliffe is followed with Lord Derby planting a tree, making a speech and handing the Charter document to the Mayor. On Prestwich's Charter day, Lord Derby is seen laying a wreath on the war memorial before heading to the town hall and handing Lord Cawley of Prestwich the town's Charter.
 
 
 
ROYAL LANCASHIRE AGRICULTURAL SHOW

The 1948 Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show held at Prairie Fields in Burnley plus clips from the 1935 show at the same venue. Exhibitors set up stands, scaffolding is secured and show animals are prepared before the event begins. The arrival of local dignitaries is followed by a variety of activities in the main arena including show jumping, best in show competitions and acrobatic displays from the Lancashire County Constabulary. After a prizegiving ceremony there are speeches from the mayors of Blackpool and Burnley inside a show tent before the film concludes with black and white clips from the 1935 event. A publicity film. It shows the many attractions of Southport for the tourist: the Marine Parks, Lord Street (shots of the War Memorial, the Gardens and the Municipal Building which are all in Lord Street), the Garrick Theatre, horse riding on the beach, golf, bowls, Hesketh Park (featuring the Meteorological Observatory and the Aviary), the Floral Hall; a long sequence inside the Floral Hall. We see the entrance hall and cashier's box, then the dance floor, where Arthur Jacobson's Broadcasting Band are playing, then the tables beside the floor where waitresses are serving; general shots of the band and the dancers.
