A secretary is seen to do four tasks: interleaving carbon and typing paper before loading it into a typewriter; typing a letter; folding the letter and inserting it into an envelope; and finally filing copies in a filing cabinet. Each task is repeated four times, with prompts for the audience to 'rate' how well each version was done.

A number of seagulls are seen on the deck of a trawler and the catch is hauled aboard. There are views of the trawler Norina (FD324), as well as other trawlers and battleships, off the coast of Iceland during the Cod Wars. Ice bergs, seabirds diving for fish and a number of spectacular sunsets are seen before the fleet returns home to Fleetwood. The film ends with views of a ferry at Fleetwood.

Scenes from the Fylde Coast, Glasson Dock, the Lakes and elsewhere featuring members of the Hodkinson family. At Fleetwood docks, ferries are seen arriving, loading up and departing. A gala day at Cleveleys features a crowning ceremony, a majorette display, a fair and other entertainment. Dorothy and Thomas visit their son's family in Cambridgeshire and there are further family scenes outside their own bungalow, and at Tamworth Castle, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. REVIVAL

Fictional story about two male gas engineers who are called out to a woman's flat to fix her faulty cooker. After the woman pops out, one of the men unwittingly dislodges a gas pipe trying to move the cooker by himself, whilst his idle partner fills out a betting form in the living room. The working engineer joins his colleague for a sit down until they both smell gas, returning to the kitchen to repair the leak. However, the woman's pet bird (in a cage next to the cooker) is found dead. Frantically, they tape the bird on to its perch before the woman returns. She discovers the pet with a scream, telling the men that "it died last night". [Catalogued as part of 'Revitalising the Regions' - a Screen Heritage UK project, 2011]
 
 
 
THE PREVENTION OF AIRBORNE INFECTION BY EXPONENTIAL FLOW

Scientific film featuring the permanent sterile downward air-flow enclosure, patented by Dr Hugh Howorth. Professor Sir John Charnley explains how the new ventilation system was installed at Wrightington Hospital in 1966, preventing contaminated air from infecting patients during hip replacement surgery. Tracer gas, convection currents and colour Schlieren photography are used to show how conventional air circulation assists the spread of infection and how the exponential flow system prevents it. Ends with a surgical team demonstrating the sequence of gowning up before an operation.

1970s fire scenes from Rochdale. We see the fire at F.W. Woolworth Ltd, Castleton, 13th May 1975. The fire at Sparth Mill, 6th May 1975. The fire at J. Duckworth Ltd, Oldham Road, 3rd May 1976. These are huge fires and we see large numbers of firefighters working to put them out.

ROUND AND ABOUT ST. ANDREWS CHURCH 1975-76

Families make their way to St Andrews Parish church in Cleveleys for the mothering Sunday service. In May, members of the Ladies Guild wait for the coach for their trip to Temple Newsam House. This year the deanery festival was held at St Pauls church, North Shore. Members of the Mothers Union parade their banners from the school room to the church. In May, members and friends of the Men's Fellowship board which would take them to the Lake District. Outside the church, volunteers collect donations for Christian Aid Week. Scenes from the Thornton-Cleveleys Gala includes a procession led the mounted police and the Scottish pipe band and St Andrews Sunday school Queen. In the next scene we see various flower displays in the church for the flower festival. The refreshment committee and helpers prepared and served snacks and meals in the church hall. To commemorate the Sunday school anniversary, a walk around the parish was held before the afternoon church service. St. Andrews Sunday school proudly paraded their new banner. A baptism was also held during the service. Later we seen the crowning of the new Sunday school Queen Karen by Mrs Gladys Thomas (the commentator of this film). At Blackpool North train station, members of the Cleveleys cubs prepare to board a train for their Jubilee outing to York. In the next scene friends and family are seen arriving at Thornton parish church for the wedding of Jenny Shoreman and Charles Balshaw. The bride and groom exit the church and have photographs taken. In the next scene members of St Andrews Parish church travel to St Helens Church in Churchtown to visit their country market. Back home in Cleveleys, the Battle of Britain Sunday procession takes place. Members of the local branch of the Royal Air Force association and the British Legion lead the procession followed by service cadets, scouts and girl guides. That same day was also Missionary Sunday, the preacher was joined by two student nurses from Uganda who were at the time training at a Kendal hospital. The film jumps to September, where the Sunday school children bring gifts to the church for the harvest festival.
 
 
 
HAPPINESS IS…

Promotional film for Southport tourism department. The film opens on the early hours in Southport, the streets are empty as the milk man does his rounds. Later it's much different as people of all ages make their way to Southport to either go shopping, to the fairground hoopla stalls piers or a ride on the promenade tram. At the Sea Bathing Lake, people enjoy the outdoor swimming bath. The press arrive to see comedian Les Dawson take part in a charity cricket match. The film then visits Happiland, a fun fair in Southport where visitors enjoy a range of rides and games. The family then head to the beach where they build sandcastles together and the children go for a pony ride. At the botanic gardens, an elderly couple walk around admiring the different flowers. The family seen earlier also visit the Lakeside Miniature Railway followed by a trip to the Southport Model Railway Village. The family then head back to their hotel where they have some food. The young teenagers get some hot dogs at the fairground while the slightly older couple go to Berni Inns for fish and chips. On the beach crowds gather to watch a beauty competition for children. The family visit Southport zoo and aquarium where they see a variety of animals. Some of the younger people go on a plane ride over Southport. The film then cuts to Victoria Park where the annual flower show takes place. Crowds gather to watch the show jumping event. At night, people go see a live band and dance. Others visit the Dandy Club and have some drinks. The family attend a live entertainment show including a comedy performance by Les Dawson.

Views of Stirling Castle, the Forth Bridge and Burns Cottage followed by more Scottish sight seeing. Two women pretend to be trapped in the stocks then a group of elderly partygoers drink in the living room. Children play in the garden then a man and boy fly a kite and play on the slide in a park. An elderly couple walk along Blackpool's promenade before exterior shots of the Commercial Inn public house.

Scenes of the Kapur family and friends enjoying days out and holidays in Lancashire, Cumbria and London. Views of Lake Windermere are followed by pigeons in Trafalgar Square and rambling in the Lune Valley.
