Compilation reel of various local events - includes May Day celebrations in Stockport in 1929. The Mayor attends the London Midland and Scottish Railway Horses Parade, where he presents certificates and rosettes to the winners. Miss M.G. Preston, Mayoress of Stockport, crowns the May Queen, Miss Phyllis Wilson, at Reddish. Further footage includes the Stockport County v Barrow football match and the Reddish Friendly Societies Parade which was held on July 21st 1929. A girl's diving competition is seen on Manchester Schools' Sports Day at an indoor swimming pool at Belle Vue. Scenes from students' Rag Day Parade along Oxford Road circa 1930, followed by a brief glimpse of King George V passing through St Peter's Square in a car, and views taken from a boat of the different ships at Manchester Docks. Stretford Pageant is seen in 1931 and 1932 - in 1932 the theme of the pageant was the Commonwealth, and each float represented a different country. There is a boy's football match at the Manchester Schools' Sports Day, and pupils from Princess Road School in Stretford are seen in the countryside on an outing.
 
 
 
SAFETY FIRST

Following a brief introduction into the work of the fire and ambulance service, a small girl is seen playing in the street. As she runs into the road to retrieve her ball she is saved from being run down by a passing policeman who then shows her safe areas for playing - play streets, the playground and park. The policeman then comes to the girl's school to give a talk on road safety - illustrated with dramatised accidents on the streets.

Family in the garden before the parents look around the shops. Later a group of people stand on the front doorstep posing and joking around for the camera. The next scenes show the family on holiday at a caravan park, they visit the beach where father and son play some football. A signpost points to Chatsworth. The group enjoy a picnic before looking around Chatsworth House. The group arrive at Prestatyn Holiday Camp via car in the rain. A crowd of people gather around a swimming pool to watch a live show. Next is a trip to Alton Towers where they look around the gardens. In the next section of the reel we see wedding guests waiting outside a church and greet the Bride when she arrives, later the happy couple pose for photographs outside the church. The wedding party then head to the reception, inside the newlyweds can be seen cutting the wedding cake. The next scene takes place in Oulton Park motor racing circuit, shots of various racing cars competing in the race. The reels ends with scenes of another wedding. Guests and members of the wedding party arrive, soon followed by the bride. After the ceremony the married couple pose for photographs outside the church before having confetti thrown on them. The guests arrive at the reception and chat to each other, shots of the wedding cake inside the reception.

Brief scenes from a wedding are followed by footage of the Pendleton Public Band at the Floral Gardens in Southport - the band members are seen arriving and walking around the town. Views from a wedding at Holyrood Church in Moorside, a woman is seen washing a dog, and there are scenes at a birthday party with people eating, dancing and fooling around in the garden. Guests and the bride are seen arriving at another wedding in St Ann's Square in Manchester, brief scenes from a football match and the film ends with views of family trips to Southport and Llandudno.

WANDERERS PAST AND PRESENT BURDEN PARK APRIL 1931 [AND LATER MATCHES]

Players run onto the pitch at Burnham Park for the George Eccles benefit match between 'Present Bolton' and 'Past Bolton' on 27th April 1931. Scenes of match action which 'Present' Bolton went on to win 2-1. Also includes footage from the 2nd October 1948 Bolton Wanderers v Arsenal match, including Bolton scoring a goal (1-0 final score). Field Marshall Viscount Montgomery (a Freeman of Bolton) is introduced by the Mayor to the players and boys' clubs before match action against Newcastle on 5th November 1949 (2-2 final score).

CAVALCADE OF BURNLEY

A record of local events in Burnley from 1932 through to 1950. Features a 1932 Hospital Carnival, a Burnley v Luton football match from 1935 and the last tram to run in the town on 7th May 1935. Wartime footage includes the activities of the Burnley Home Guard and a 'Wings for Victory' parade along Colne Road in 1943. King George VI visits Burnley on 8th March 1945 before newspaper headlines announce the end of the war and there are shots of street parties, dancing outside the Town Hall, fires being lit, a thanksgiving service at St Peters Church and an outdoor concert and ceremony at Towneley Park. The film ends with footage from the 1950 General Election at which local Labour MP Wilfrid Burke retains his seat. The 100 Mile Car Race on Southport Sands is seen, as well as Irvine MacDonald's 21st birthday party and people ice-skating in Heswall. A crowd gathers outside Liverpool Cathedral in 1938, and there are scenes from MacDonald family holidays in Cornwall and the Conwy Valley. Irvine playing in a rugby match in Hoylake concludes.

Scenes from a scout camp on Fylde Coast. Crowds gather to watch the arrival of Prince Albert of York (later King George VI) where he is given a tour of the camp. The film cuts to a crowded beach where many people swim in the sea. Back at the scout camp, the chef poses for the camera. The scouts wash and change their clothes and one man plays the bagpipes. After brief shots of a race, men can be seen packing to leave the camp. The men wait to board double-decker buses. In a garden, one man relaxes in a hammock while the others sit and drink tea. A group of women play some tennis. Crowds gather outside Bloomfield Rd for the Blackpool and Doncaster Rovers football match. In the next scene we see a packed out stadium watching the match. Back at home, a woman takes her dogs for a walk. Later, the group pose for the camera outside a hotel. The film ends with scenic shots of mountains and a lake.
