Features the Guild declaration at the Town Hall, a Brownie and Guide Parade down Market Street, runners returning the Guild Scroll from America, an open-air service in Avenham Park, dancing in Market Square, outdoor displays and a torchlight procession. Preparations are made for the Kingsfold carnival floats which are then seen as part of the extensive parade and procession footage.

Opens with views of Mottram in Longdendale and Lowry working at his easel, mixed with interviews and voice over. Lowry is shown around his permanent exhibit at Salford Art Gallery and discusses the paintings there with Greaves. There is a montage of derelict mills and new construction sites, as Lowry reflects on the passing of the Cotton industry and how the region's industrial landscape has changed with the passing of time. Closes with extracts from an earlier Granada production 'This England : Mr Lowry', which shows him wandering around Piccadilly Gardens and empathising with the vagrants gathered there.

Members of past squads are shown in photographs and present members are seen arriving at the pool with their parents. The squad go to the Northern Counties Festival of Swimming at Derby Baths in Blackpool, where they compete in races, before returning to their regular practice routines back at New Islington. Diane Ashton is seen winning the 200m backstroke and is pictured in a back garden with her trophy, before the whole squad get back to regular training at New Islington Pool. New Year 1973, the children play outside in the snow. They build a snowman and have a snowball fight with their dad.

In September 1972 we see firefighters from the Lancashire County Fire Brigade fighting a fire at St. Leonard's Church in Padiham. Some of the firefighters use hoses at ground level and others fight the fire from the roof using long ladders.
