A military tattoo show begins with shots of the White Helmets' motorcycle display team bikes and support van, then exhibition stands by the Royal Signals, the Royal Artillary and a Chieftain tank. The Kings Division infantry give a climbing and abseiling demonstration followed by the Parachute Regiment on a rope slide and helping members of the public on a tower parachute drop. A marching military band on the display ground followed by the White Helmets' motorcycle display team. The film ends with an army helicopter display team which take off and fly in formation with coloured smoke.

Cub scouts at Camp Buckmore in Kent. We see the boys playing with a frisbee and racing motor go-karts. This is followed by scenes from a trip to London. We see the boys at Buckingham Palace, feeding pigeons in Trafalgar Square and standing in front of No. 10 Downing Street. The film ends with scenes of the boys playing football, roller skating and on the train home.
 
 
 
SILVER JUBILEE 1977

A record of events held in Burnley and District in celebration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. After rooftop views of Burnley we see the organising committee at Burnley Town Hall followed by a parade through the town and a service at St Peters church. Next we have a concert at the high school for girls by the Simmons College Chorale from Boston USA, an art exhibition and the Jubilee Tattoo at Townley Hall Park which features various funfair rides and display teams on the show ground. After the Jubilee Bonfire we have nice scenes of 4 street parties. The surrounding villages of Cliviger, Worsthorne and Hadgate have their own Jubilee parades with fancy dress and decorated floats as well as sports events and dog shows. An amateur production of 'The Arcadians' held at Townley Park is next followed by the Northern Youth Championship Band Contest.

THE GIRVAN PLAN

This short documentary records the efforts of the Norfed diving group as they try to recover the steering wheel from a French cargo steamer, the Longwy, sunk by a U-boat off the Scottish coast in 1917, and still causing problems for fishing boats in the area. The film includes scenes of planning for the expedition, life aboard the MFV Spindrift as it sails to the site of the wreck, and diving scenes, culminating in the wheel being successfully detached and brought to the surface.

Scenes from the 1977 Swinton Whit-Sunday walk. Various Sunday schools, churches, bands and youth organisations take part in the procession. The film cuts to scenes from the Silver Jubilee in June 1977. The family watch the live Royal events being aired on television. Crowds gather outside for the street party, there's plenty of food and drink as well as games and races. At night, the party continues back in the house.
 
 
 
HAPTON SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS 1977

A parade of decorated vehicles and floats is one of the celebrations in Hapton, near Burnley, to mark the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Participants of all ages wear fancy dress, period costume, and outfits representing characters from nursery rhymes and fiction. Union Jacks are waved, and the streets are lined with crowds of onlookers.

Family scenes from the Heyes Family of Mossborough Hall Farm in Rainford, St. Helens. The film opens with a teenage girl washing a car and then we see an elderly lady walking her dog in the woods. We see building work nearing completion on a bungalow on the family land, just the septic tank is there waiting to be sunk, the date is 21 January 1977. The cattle are in the field nearby eating maize. We then see various family members at home sitting around telling stories. On 26 March 1977, Aunty Nancy is moving house, various family members are present and they speak for the camera. We see the family and friends in the living room having coffees after having a supper party together. We then go to Easter 1977 where we see the Heyes on board Trevor's new boat, Calypso, which is being launched for the first time on Lake Windermere. We see children go-karting in the grounds of the farm. On 1 May 1977, we see Michael Heyes Jackson's christening. The family pose for photos outside the church and then we see them at home giving a speech and toasting the new baby. We then see a welcome home party in the garden for William, who has just been collected from Manchester Airport. There is another garden party at home, this time with some visiting American cousins, who speak for the camera. We see the Heyes at Mr Fishwick's home in Windermere and then the family at home in their living room at Mossborough Hall. They sit and chat. There follow more scenes from the garden, some people play tennis while others sit and watch. We then see a more formal garden party at the Hall. The film ends with a group of men sitting in a field eating, drinking and talking.
 
 
 
[HOLIDAY TO ARGENTINA AND WILLIAM COMES HOME]

Family and holiday scenes from the Heyes Family of Mossborough Hall in Rainford, St. Helens. The film opens with scenes of family at home wishing Mr and Mrs Heyes a safe journey. Their trip to Argentina takes place in February 1977. We see the Heyes at the Sheraton Hotel in Buenos Aires, and they show us their view of the city from the hotel window and they point out the River Plate, the main railway station, and the Victoria Memorial. Mr and Mrs Heyes then visit William at the ranch where his is working, the ranch is in a very small village called Christophersen in the province of Santa Fe. Mr Heyes talks to the camera about the area and William tells us about his work on the ranch and models traditional Argentinian clothes. Mr and Mrs Heyes then go on a coach trip around Argentina and they film the sights that they see on their trip, including a local market, historic ruins, a tea plantation and Iguazu Falls. They return to the ranch where William shows us more of the activities that go on there, and then we see William in Buenos Aires with his parents. They are in the swimming pool on the roof of the hotel, they show us their view of Buenos Aires from the roof, including a large cemetery. William returns home on 21 May 1977, a group of family go to Manchester Airport to meet him and William arrives wearing traditional Argentinian dress.

A brief history of Vickers' shipyard in Barrow is followed by men at work on different components of the Invincible, the sixth ship to bear this name, as well as shots in the design offices. On a very wet day, large crowds of local people come to see Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The ship is launched, there is a brief air display and the Queen tours the ship yard meeting staff and watches an artillery display.
 
 
 
1ST STRETFORD SCOUTS CANAL CRUISE 1977

Leaders and members of the 1st Stretford Scout Group travel down a canal, a power station can be seen briefly. They pass by swans and their cygnets and later go through a canal lock. They also pass over a canal aqueduct and later pass through Rochdale Canal Dale St lock. They travel through the canal route in and around the city centre. The film cuts to beautiful rural views and the scouts go kayaking. The film ends with the scouts and leaders standing on the bank drinking tea.
